Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Irwin.
Hi Kat, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always loved being creative. I grew up building things from bits of wood or drawing alone in my bedroom. I followed this passion through my teenage years and eventually studied Product Design in Milan. After graduating I moved to London to pursue a career in Furniture design. I applied for many jobs – and got rejected from them all. I thought I’d be working in a pub until I die… until I met a nudist in a cafe.
“Can you design mobile apps?” he asked.
“Sure..” I answered.
I was broke and desperate, so figured I’d just have to learn as I went along. And I’m so glad I took that chance. He took me under his wing and taught me the ins and outs of running his business. As the business grew, so did my role. I was responsible for marketing, client management and sales, and I even traveled to multiple countries to meet with clients of attend trade shows – an amazing experience especially since I had only recently graduated.
It could’nt have been a better job. But something was missing – and my boss could see it too. He encouraged me to explore freelancing, and that’s when my web design business really began.
Now, 4 years later, I wok with mission-driven businesses to build websites that help grow their business in a way the feels authentic, while making a positive impact in the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I look back now, my journey seems pretty smooth. But it didn’t feel like that at the time…
One of the biggest things I’ve struggled with is the constant feeling that I know nothing. As an entrepreneur, you’re always trying new things, learning on the go and doing things for the first time. And let’s be honest – the first time you do something it normally isn’t that good. My first instagram post, my first email newsletter, my first podcast were nothing to brag about!
Feeling like a beginner over and over again was discouraging at first. But with time, I’ve learned to embrace it. Being a beginner means you’re growing, and that’s actually something to be proud of.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I fix outdated, ugly or ineffective websites for mission-driven entrepreneurs, so they can focus on making an impact. Whether it’s a full website, a quick audit or ongoing support, I partner with businesses to build a website that will grow your business – not just that gather dust in the background.
I offer Website Design, Website Audits, Brand Strategy and Maintenance & Support.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing people achieve their dreams. There’s so much anger and negativity in the world, and it can feel overwhelming at times. But knowing I’ve played even a small part in helping someone create something meaningful, grow their business, or feel proud of their work – that’s what really lights me up. Making a positive impact, no matter how small, reminds me that we can all contribute to making the world a little brighter.
And my cats. I love my cats…
