Today we’d like to introduce you to Karinn Gartmann
Hi Karinn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Having been a nurse since 2016, getting married, having 2 kids, and working in a toxic environment – I was craving more. I think COVID made most healthcare professionals asking themselves if there was no way out. I learned about the world of aesthetics and saw a place where I could do what I love – take care of people – while having the flexibility and possibility of making my dreams come true while being there for my family. Starting this business from the ground up has not been easy. There have been many highs and lows. But I am really proud of the adversity that I have overcome and the promise of the future.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from a smooth road. As soon as I made the leap into aesthetics and began the launch process for Ember Aesthetics, my mom passed away from a long struggle with breast cancer. I dealt with my grief by throwing myself into my work. While the business was beginning to succeed, my mental health was suffering. I didn’t process the death of my mom in a healthy way. I buried a lot. Pushed a lot aside. I recently “graduated” from therapy and counseling and it has given me the opportunity to grow my business with a more level head.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I joke that I am a Nurse Practitioner by day, entrepreneur by night. I launched Ember Aesthetics in 2021 as a botox concierge service. In less than 3 years, this company has grown to 2 locations and an ever-expanding full-service menu of aesthetic services and treatments. What sets Ember apart is the personalized approach that we take. We pride ourselves on building relationships with our patients, educating them and others, as well as tailoring each treatment. Safety is also our #1 priority and we take that very seriously.
What makes you happy?
I gave birth to my first son in 2017 as a labor & delivery nurse. I didn’t have any help from the hospital after delivery aside from 6 weeks of short-term disability. After a traumatic birth for myself and my son, I returned to work just 42 days later.
While my second birth allowed me to take a longer maternity leave, I was working 5 days a week 40+ hours. My work in those days held me back from experiencing motherhood to its fullest potential. So now, what makes me happy is being able to be home with my sons 2 days a week. It makes me happy to be able to go to the park after breakfast and spend those mundane, still moments with them. Mom gets to be there for it all now – and that makes me happy.
