Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua And Noelle Locke

Hi Joshua and Noelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

Whilst Noelle has been brewing kombucha since 2016, we *technically* started the business in September of 2020, when we were faced with the possibility of exiting full-time military service out of the Air Force. We began introducing our unique brews to our friends to get their buy-in if they would actually purchase our kombucha if offered in a store–and with a lot of positive feedback, we began regularly selling our kombucha to customers in 2021. As it was a lot to manage on our own between other full-time jobs, we pivoted in 2022 so we could start brewing in a larger capacity, and to help us make it more available to anyone who wanted our komba (our affectionate nickname for kombucha). We’re currently working to make our komba accessible to as many places in Alaska this year, and then looking at other possibilities to expand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Anything worthwhile isn’t easy! The trick for us has been PERSISTENCE, even when it feels like we’re not making any progress, things are slow, or even moving backward–the thing that’s made the difference for us is to keep going. When things get hard, you’ve got to remember why you’re in business in the first place, and for us, it’s always been about sharing something that can really change peoples’ health without compromising taste. We love to make being healthy something enjoyable!

As you know, we’re big fans of Aurora Kombucha. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

We are a husband and wife team and two U.S. Air Force veterans-turned entrepreneurs who own a local kombucha company in Eagle River, Alaska. We started brewing out of our basement and started selling directly to customers in local markets and events in 2020.

We are passionate about providing an authentically brewed health drink that tastes AMAZING! All kombucha is not brewed equally, so to preserve the authenticity and quality of the time-tested health drink, we adhere to traditional brewing methods in small batches to provide the max amount of health benefits to all our komba-sipping fans.

We pride ourselves on providing an array of unique kombucha flavors that haven’t been created before. Our flavors are inspired by our travels and life lived around the world (from being in the military), so don’t be surprised if you see an unfamiliar flavor!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?

Persistence and patience have really been two beautiful gifts we’re developing over the time of running this business. It’s been a beautiful thing to see the faithfulness of the Lord working things out and growing our business with all that we put into it. Hard work and faith in who and what He’s given us has really helped us keep going!
