Hi Jenny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The story of The Elderberry Co. began quite unexpectedly in November of 2017, with a simple Facebook post. What started as a casual offer to friends and family to try my homemade elderberry syrup—a natural remedy I had been using to keep my own family healthy—quickly turned into something much bigger. Before I knew it, I was selling jars of syrup right from my front porch, as demand continued to grow.
By October 2018, it became clear that I needed to scale up. To keep up with the increasing demand, I transitioned to a commercial kitchen, which not only allowed me to produce larger batches of syrup but also gave me the ability to expand my reach through an online store. Within just a month of launching, our sales quadrupled, and we began shipping our products nationwide.
Since those early days, The Elderberry Co. has grown into a thriving business with a dedicated team of about 15 people. We’ve expanded our product line to over 40 items, all designed to empower families to lead healthier, more active lives. Our offerings now include elderberry gummies, collagen and biotin gummies, magnesium balm, tallow, loose-leaf teas, honey, and much more—each product rooted in our mission to support wellness naturally.
What started as a small, grassroots operation has turned into a company that is making a meaningful impact, and we’re excited to continue growing, creating products that people trust and love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been seasons of smoothness, with plenty of struggles along the way. Some of the struggles were understanding FDA and USDA rules when it comes to marketing your product. I also had to learn how to apply sales tax across multiple states. I also have had struggles in my manufacturing relationships as our company has grown and we have had to outsource the manufacturing of some of the products we offer.

The Elderberry Co exists to empower families with a natural and effective way to support their immune systems. We are inspired to empower families to live healthy and active lifestyles through the products we offer including Elderberry Syrup, Elderberry Gummies, Collagen + Biotin Gummies, Magnesium Balm, Tallow, honey and loose leaf teas. Our Elderberry Syrup is what sets us apart from others. We make our syrup fresh every week with a blend of berries, spices and raw honey. I am proud that our brand has grown to be a household staple across the country and has truly empowered families. I want your readers to know that while we have grown immensely in our 7 years of business, we still operate as a small business and our customer service and quality of products is unlike anyone else out there. We love our customers and truly value the support they give us as a small business.
