Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

After starting my sustainable fashion company, RE.STATEMENT, I decided to scale with my own invention: The Buckle Scrunchie. It’s the one hair accessory you need: reliable throughout the day and rewards you when you’re done.

I’ve had this idea since I was 13 years old.

I had actually forgotten all about it until one day I decided that I never wanted my hair ties to pull my hair out ever again, and I took out my old sewing machine from college and started prototyping.

Before starting my own company, I worked at startups, fashion companies, and started my own mini lifestyle brand in college to pay the bills. Since I was 3 years old, I always wanted to be a fashion designer and learned to sew at a very young age. I’d cut up (or “upcycle”) old fabric scraps or plastic grocery bags and turn them into little dresses to wear around the house.

Crazy to think about that the experiences and encounters I had when I was young all play a part in who I am today. I think 3 year old Hannah M. Le would be proud.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

As of the moment, the biggest challenge to overcome is to get Buckle Scrunchies and Buckle Hair Ties in front of the right people!

Biggest of shoutouts to my mom and dad.

Growing up, I watched my mom sew a lot. She does alterations for a living, and she taught me how to sew by hand when I was maybe four or five years old. Fashion design was actually the first “real-person job” I remember wanting as a kid.

I met my dad when I was four years old, and he is, by far, the most hardworking man I know. His dedication, persistence, and attention to detail are skills I can only hope to have a percent of.

My parents have been supportive every stage of my life, and I owe them my success and more.
