Today we’d like to introduce you to Hameed Odunewu
Hi Hameed, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a passion for music since joining my school’s band in elementary and followed that up by earning a Vocational Certificate in Commercial Music while in High School. While in college I had the opportunity to meet and work with other musicians and those within the creative industry. That led me to start my brand “Dope Dreams Production” an entertainment company that focuses on developing creatives. In 2021 I had the opportunity to open “The Village OTL” a photography and recording studio in Chicago. Today, I focus on working with creatives to develop their brand while also providing them with the legal resources they need.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting to this point took a lot of hard work and several failures before I was able to really understand what I wanted to do and how I could do it. The biggest struggle I dealt with was finding a space for myself within the Chicago creative community. Networking and attending different events such as open mics and art showings was really key to understanding the ecosystem of creatives I was entering.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dope Dreams Productions. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The goal of Dope Dreams Productions is provide those who create with the resources they need to excel at their craft. We do this by connecting creatives together for mutual growth, providing opportunities to display ones craft, and by providing creatives with a lot of the behind the scenes support that is very necessary for their success. We have a network of photographers, videographers, musicians, business professionals, and legal professionals who work together to develop and grow each other’s brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Seeing a plan or an idea makes me extremely happy because a lot goes into coming up with a great idea and then having to execute it is a whole other beast within itself. When everything turns out how you plan it, its a very rewarding feeling because its reassurance that you are on the right path.
