Hi Dedra Moon, Felicia James, Katrina Peele, Yvonne Clay, Jamina Nailor, Gloria Woods, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
During my first interview with CanvasRebel, I shared a bit of my life threatening and life changing illness that left me hospitalized for 7 months and currently using a wheelchair due to my inability to walk unassisted.
During the height of my illness, my fate and the fate of the company was uncertain. Through the help of my health care team, family, friends, supporters and strangers, I’ve weathered a very challenging experience and have fought to rise from the ashes like the mythical Phoenix.
You can find our logo proudly displayed on our company shirts because the Phoenix embodies the power of resilience and that encapsulates not only our story but our company culture.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Since our first feature in Canvas Rebel we’ve expanded our staff and brought on more experts to help us provide a higher level of service with a more robust set of offerings.
We have not swayed away from our core group of small business owners and budding entrepreneurs, however, we’ve expanded the services we provide.
Our in office team can assist with Human Resources, Payroll, Marketing, Research, Outreach and Training services. We have an expert in each area that is not only a well trained tax professional but also a subject matter expert in various specialties.
We know that our clients have trusted us for years with all things related to federal and state income taxes and laws and now, with our new team of experts we can provide wraparound services to our small business clients.

The Moon Group Tax & Accounting Services dba The Moon Group is an accounting firm specializing in business services for small businesses and budding entrepreneurs.
We take great care with assisting our clients from the inception of a business through various stages of development.
We are most excited when we’re able to help a new entrepreneur to grow from an idea, to a concept, to legally structuring a business to understanding profit and loss and the tax preparation and implication of it all.
We understand that starting a business is amazing and frightening, exhilarating and exhausting, impactful and daunting and we’re here to help our clients with the business side of the business while they are busy working the business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe good luck is where preparation and opportunity intersect. Though I love the idea of good luck and love when it happens, I’m a firm believer in creating your “luck” through putting in the work to achieve your goals and dreams.
Luck tends to imply happenstance and I don’t like to wait for good luck to “happen” to me, instead, I focus on doing the work to make it happen and like magic, good luck appears.
I say that with a chuckle, because again, I’m a firm believer that good luck happens, when preparation and opportunity meet.
