Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Yunk Walsch
Hi Becky, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved horses and wanted one so naturally I started drawing them as soon as I could hold a crayon. I’ve never been able to have one yet or be around them so making wire drawings of them is my time and way of being with them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Well after I got out of school there was no extra time to do art. For 23 years I was just doing odd jobs etc. and I had a landscaping business with my partner. It wasn’t until I came back to Wisconsin when I decided to start making my art and selling it since I had to start my life all over with nothing and build it back up again.
I went back to school and got my life and securities licenses and worked two jobs. I tried to succeed in financial services and just wasn’t able to so it allowed me more time to focus on my art and being involved with the Starfish Foundation that raises money for Healing Warrior Hearts retreats.
These life changing, healing retreats are free to veterans and their families and totally staffed and funded by volunteers.
I get the precious gift of staffing them and seeing veterans begin the retreat with extreme PTSD and watching their lives transform, miracles happen for them, in the form of healing, and they leave the weekend with far more light, love and laughter in their hearts.
Also 4% of the annual profits I make from selling my art goes to:
HealingWarriorHearts.org
3% goes to Lifestriders and
3% to Horse Power Healing Center out of my love and gratitude to our veterans, military personnel law enforcement and first responders.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in making Copper Horse Wire Drawings however I do pet and people portraits and other animals. I also draw and paint.
I am expanding my product line into beautifully engraved wood pieces and other merchandise. I will be building a new website soon that show cases this. I am super excited about these products that are coming.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
James John Christopher, who was my landscaping business partner gave me the copper wire that I made my first drawings from. I made two beautiful bison and mounted them on a piece of drift wood and gave it to my dear friend, Bob Taylor., who was a Marine.
Patricia Clason, the founder of Healing Warrior Hearts and Taking it Lightly. She gave me a new start to my life in November of 1989.
My parents, Chris and Marty Duszynski, who welcomed me back into their home when I lost everything and only had $200, a backpack and the clothes on my back. They gave me their love and a hope for a brighter future. Without them I do not think I would be alive.
Bryan Walsch, my sweet husband who has given me such a beautiful and blessed life and is so supportive of me in every way.
