Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Holmes
Hi Anthony, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an artist and designer born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. From a young age, I found solace in drawing and painting, losing myself in the endless possibilities that art presented. My childhood consisted of countless hours exploring different mediums, experimenting with colors, and expressing my emotions through my work. I studied Graphic Design at The Wood Tobe-Coburn School in Manhattan where i honed my skills in Logo Design, Branding, Advertising, Illustration, etc.; whilst still boasting my natural talent in painting + illustration. I graduated with my A.O.S. (Associate of Occupational Studies) in 2013.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never been a smooth road. At first there wasn’t even a road to walk down i had to pave my own way. Self-doubt is probably the first struggle we all go through. Artists often grapple with self-doubt and the fear that their work isn’t good enough, which can hinder our creative process. The creative blocks and artistic burnout can keep you stuck on a project for weeks, having to constantly produce creative work is mentally exhausting. Building a reputation is another hurdle. Gaining recognition and building a reputation in the art world can be slow and challenging. It requires persistence and continuous self-promotion. Having an unpredictable income is probably the biggest hinderance. Commissions and sales can flucuate along with convincing potential clients to pay fair prices for your work.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
BRILLIANT BSTRDS is a brand that represents the rebellious and eccentric side of creation. The world of design is littered with complex problems which we have learned to take an unorthodox approach whilst still adhering to universal design regulations. We work towards displaying the brilliance and mischief that art can exemplify; may it be through graphic design, paintings, or clothing.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk-taking is a fundamental aspect of growth and innovation, especially in creative fields like art and design. Embracing risk can lead to remarkable breakthroughs and opportunities that wouldn’t be possible through safe, conventional paths. I, myself, have taken extreme risk to even get myself off the ground. I quit my full time 6-figure job in the city just so i could start up my company. I felt that i was wasting my talent by working all the time and i was unhappy with my day to day life. In essence, risk-taking is about daring to step into the unknown with the belief that the potential rewards are worth the uncertainty. It’s a powerful catalyst for growth, creativity, and success, enabling you to achieve your full potential and make a meaningful impact in your field.
