Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie O’Malley
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This business was born out of my own need for guidance, support and connection in the early days of motherhood. I designed this business to provide other new moms with all of the things I so desperately wanted as a new mom. I needed someone to normalize the struggles I was experiencing and the feelings I was having. I needed a way to find my village that didn’t feel super intimidating. I needed to know where to take my tiny human, and what products and services would make my life easier. But it didn’t exist, so I created it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been some bumps in the road, as probably any business owner will say. The most notable was following the birth of my second child, I experienced postpartum depression that brought the business almost completely to a halt. At the time, I had no employees to support the work I was doing, so while I focused on my own well-being, everything had to be put on hold. I’m grateful to say that when I was ready to return to the business, I was met with nothing but support, one of the perks of running a business rooted in building community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Central Mass Mom?
Our mission has three prongs; (1) to create low pressure, in-person opportunities for moms to connect and have fun, (2) to provide content that helps moms feel seen, supported, understood, and less alone, and last, but certainly not least, (3) to promote the wonderful businesses that make Central Massachusetts so great by providing our platform to connect with our audience.
We live our mission through twice monthly mom’s night out events, and twice monthly kid inclusive playdate events, where moms are encouraged to ‘come solo’ and mingle. We lightly facilitate the events with an introduction, as well as often incorporating games or activities into the events to help break the ice.
We have a team of over 30 writers and content creators who write from their own experience, providing personal perspectives, tips and tricks, the best local spots, and so much more.
We partner with local and national businesses that we know our audience would benefit from knowing about, by providing ad space on our website, social media platforms and email subscriber list.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the wide range of places to go and things to do not only in Worcester, but in all of the towns that surround it. I love that Worcester is able to draw many of the major national attractions that Boston sees, but without the traffic and parking craziness of Boston.
