Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Lonnstrom Carrysdotter
Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, I did a 180 about four years ago. It was back in 2020 when I found Human Design that so much shifted for me. I was on maternity leave, going through grief after the unexpected loss of my father, and it was the pandemic. Life was very much all over the place and I was on a deep personal journey of self discovery.
Human Design helped me understand who I was on the deepest level, my gifts and talents became crystal clear, my past (and my future) started to make sense. From then and on, I knew it was time to make that change I had been craving for so many years.
I have a long and successful background in media, entertainment, fashion, and beauty, but I always knew I wanted to guide others in some capacity. I had always been interested in casting, HR, and recruitment but never worked in those industries, but it was a big clue.
When I started my business in 2021, I only focused on doing Human Design readings, but very early on, it became clear that I was meant to be doing more than that and I shifted to doing purpose and career readings. Since then, everything has sort of naturally evolved and my work has become more ‘niched’ towards career and business coaching. I now support individuals who want to make a career transition or start their own business, but also small companies who want my help with creating a dynamic team.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, and if anyone tells you otherwise when it comes to starting your own business, don’t believe them haha!
I actually wish there were more people sharing their struggles when starting a business, but we are mostly fed the success stories. It’s like no one ever wants to admit how hard it’s been to actually get to where they are at. I think that is detrimental in so many ways, it makes a lot of people question themselves and think that they’re doing something wrong if things aren’t ‘easy.’ But I digress.
For me I can think of three major challenges during these past three years.
The biggest challenge in the beginning was simply starting from scratch and in a completely new field. I didn’t start this as a side hustle, I went straight from a corporate career to working in the online space and in the spiritual world on top of that. I had to google everything, I had never heard of Canva, I didn’t know what apps or software to use for content creation or newsletters or how to produce a podcast. It was very much a trial-and-error kind of process and I had to figure everything out as I went along. I didn’t know anyone in my new industry, but luckily I’ve been able to connect with other practitioners both online and IRL and I have my own little support network now that I am very grateful for. I think using your social skills is really key to create that support system around you, otherwise it can get quite lonely.
The second most challenging thing, which is unavoidable when you’re starting out, is that you have to do everything yourself at first. On top of guiding my clients I am also the CEO, the bookkeeper, the social media manager, and the marketing department. And I am a mom and a partner as well. I’m not gonna lie, it’s hard to do it all by yourself. My biggest advice here is to structure your work week in a way that is sustainable and if you are a mother (especially to toddler like I am), just accept that things will take longer than you think they will. “Direction is more important than speed” has been my mantra. Oh, and hire that bookkeeper as soon as you can, because it was such a relief to take that load off.
The third challenge for me has been to trust my own process and not put myself in a box. It’s easy to have self awareness yet still look at what everyone else is doing and get caught up in mind games about what you think you ‘should’ do. Trusting in who you are, and what feels right for you is so important.
Just like we as people grow and evolve in life, so will our business. I went from being a Human Design reader to being a career and business coach in three years and I am so happy I trusted what felt right for me. It takes courage to stay in your lane and do things your own way. I too can have doubts sometimes, but I always check in with myself and trust my intuition when it comes to moving forward or making changes.
As you know, we’re big fans of Conscious Career Creators. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I just launched the Conscious Career Creators platform in June 2024. It’s a hub and a community for all things about career transitioning and starting your own business. It’s meant to support those who want to do career in their own way and step away from the one size fits all approach to success. The platform has courses, masterclasses, a blog, newsletter, and podcast so you can explore your gifts, skills, and passions. It’s still early days, but my plan is to fill it with information and inspiration so everyone can confidently and consciously create a career or business that feels authentic and meaningful to them.
I do 1:1 work through sessions and mentorships and as mentioned, I also support small teams with recruitment and understanding how to best work together. Later this year I will also launch a group program so I can help more people find career clarity. Human Design, Astrology, and the Gene Keys are core pillars of my work, but I also use all the self discovery tools I’ve tried, collected, and created myself over the years in my own journey.
I call myself a non-traditional and unconventional career guide because I don’t have a one size fits all approach to doing work that you love. I don’t have a 5-step universal program because we are all different and I believe that’s why my clients enjoy working with me. I’m not gonna tell them what worked for me, because they have their own identity, their own passions and skill set, so how they approach a business or career will be very unique to them.
Career is so much more than achievement and climbing the hierarchal ladder. Career is doing work we love while still having time for a life outside of work that we love. I don’t believe in hustle culture, I don’t believe that we need to burn ourselves to the ground in order to become successful. I believe we can do things our own way, but first we need to let go of what we think a career should look like. Only striving for what looks good on paper will always leave us feeling unfulfilled at the end of the day.
I am proud of all the brave individuals who come to me and want to make a change and start their own businesses. It can be scary leaving the comfort of an employment behind, but I see more and more people not wanting their talents to go to waste by trying to fit into a mold an employer has created. As I said in my previous interview with you, empowered individuals make a powerful team. And I am proud of myself for empowering others to step into their highest potential.
