Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Lynn Durham
Hi Amy Lynn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I used to be a corporate executive in the retail industry, managing hundreds of employees at both private and publicly traded companies. But as I advanced in my career, I began to experience burnout and a deep sense of loneliness, which I now realize came from the isolating nature of the executive role. To counter this, I started incorporating more human-centered activities into my leadership approach, allowing my teams and me to connect on a deeper level.
Around the same time, I was undergoing a personal spiritual awakening, which led me to make the tough decision to leave the corporate world. I knew I wanted to bring more heart and human connection into workplaces, and that’s how “Create Magic at Work” was born. I had planned my exit a year in advance, giving myself time to travel, reflect, and write my book.
I later earned my executive coaching certification from the Berkeley Executive Coaching Institute at UC Berkeley, and with this newfound skillset and sense of purpose, I launched “Create Magic at Work.” Seeing the impact it’s made in the corporate world has been incredibly rewarding, and I hope my journey can inspire others to bring more meaning and connection into their work lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of struggles along the way. One of the biggest challenges has been recognizing the value of true guidance. In the beginning, I encountered a lot of advice from different people, but I quickly learned how important it is to surround myself with mentors and support systems that truly align with my vision and goals.
Building a business can be complex, and having the right people in your corner helps you stay focused. I am fortunate to now have a team that excels at this by helping me and our clients discern between real opportunities and distractions. Their support in honing vision, identifying key actions, and maintaining focus has been invaluable.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be to stay committed to your core values and be discerning about who you choose to work with and invest your money with. The right support system can be the difference between feeling lost and finding your way with confidence and clarity.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Create Magic At Work?
At Create Magic At Work®, we offer a wide range of products, services, and workshops aimed at helping leaders tap into their spiritual intelligence and become what I call “quantum leaders.” These leaders are equipped to make wise and compassionate decisions that positively impact their teams, communities, and the world. One of the key ways we support leaders is through coaching contracts with companies, where we provide 1:1 coaching for their teams. These sessions help individuals develop resilience, experience inner peace, and perform effectively, even in high-stress environments.
In addition to our coaching services, we offer the Creating Career Magic: A Daily Prompt Journal, a Journal Prompt Card Deck, and workshops that bring these tools to life. However, the heartbeat of Create Magic At Work is our Executive Coaching. We specialize in guiding leaders through a transformative journey, helping them access both inner and outer peace as they navigate the challenges of leadership.
Our podcast, Create Magic at Work, has also gained a following, offering a unique perspective on workplace leadership with a focus on spiritual intelligence and quantum leadership. Each conversation features guests who share insights that help individuals become more compassionate and effective leaders.
At the core of our work is helping clients shift from operating out of fear, ego, and defensiveness to leading from a place of inner wisdom, compassion, and love. By practicing this approach, leaders are able to make better decisions and create a more positive impact. What sets us apart is our deep commitment to this transformation, both for individuals and entire teams, and I’m incredibly proud of the meaningful change we’ve helped bring to workplaces through our coaching and leadership development offerings.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my grandpa taught me how to ride a bike. I was so scared, but he was right there with me, holding onto the back of the bike and reassuring me. I kept asking, “Are you holding on? Are you holding on?” and every time he’d say, “I’m holding on.” After a while, I looked back, and to my surprise, he wasn’t holding on anymore—he was just running alongside me. I realized I was riding the bike all by myself, and he was there, quietly supporting me, even when I didn’t realize it. That moment has always stuck with me.
The lesson from that story is about trust and the importance of letting go. My grandpa reassured me when I was afraid, but eventually, he knew I was ready to handle it on my own. Sometimes, the people who support us most know when to step back and let us discover our own strength. It’s a reminder that growth often happens when we least expect it, and even when we feel uncertain, we may be more capable than we realize, with our loved ones cheering us on in the background.
