Today we’d like to introduce you to Alli Creagh
Alli, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The year was 2010, and I decided to quit my first job out of college. The decision to leave what I thought was my dream career path as an event planner, to pursue a career in fitness, ultimately led me to discover my true calling and build a business that aligned with my values and interests.
I had grown up in the fitness world with my father’s business and participated in many sports. With the passion already ignited, I started my journey as a personal trainer in 2010. I was told by my father to find a niche and make that a focal point of my training. The stars aligned, and I was introduced to a Pilates studio almost simultaneously. I fell in love with the practice and thought that with the knowledge of Pilates and personal training, it would be a force to be reckoned with.
I began my training at Power Pilates in Midtown Manhattan and completed a 600-hour, 6-month program as an apprentice. I completed a comprehensive program that made me understand how to teach, how to work with any type of body put in front of me, and the scientific reasoning behind the movements. Immediately after the program ended, I began teaching classes and privates. It quickly evolved to people hiring me to come to their apartments to train them on their own equipment. Within about a year and a half of ending the program, I had a small business of a consistent client base that continued to grow from client referrals.
Fast forward to 2016, my husband had to move to Las Vegas for work, and so we left New York, and I embarked on my journey of restarting my business. I quickly found a job personal training and teaching Pilates at a local gym, and again with consistency and perseverance, built my clientele up so vastly that my husband encouraged me to open up a studio in the Arts District, where he was developing. I spent 6 months, while maintaining my clients’ workouts, developing and building my own small studio. I found that the build-out and handling the back end was the most difficult part of the process, but once that ended and I opened my doors, it made every part of the process worthwhile. Here I am now, 6 years after opening my doors, with a successful studio in the heart of the Las Vegas Arts District where I get to go to “work” every day and train the most wonderful people. Some of which have been with me since the first day I started my first job in Las Vegas, 8 years ago.
My passion for fitness and helping others has only grown stronger over the years, and I am constantly inspired by the progress and transformations I see in my clients. The decision to switch careers and follow my heart has not only led me to my true calling but has also allowed me to build a community of like-minded individuals who share my dedication to health and wellness. The journey has been challenging, but the rewards have been beyond worth it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most challenging part of my journey was actually creating and building my studio. I can teach any class, train any person you put in front of me, learn new modalities of fitness but I had to learn all of the not so fun stuff that goes along with the business; Learning to create an llc, going to the city to get proper permits to pass a certificate of occupancy, finding a scheduling service to keep track of all of the clientele and money in and out, and finding certified instructors to teach with me. Asking for help from other people who have experience with running or starting a business definitely helped along the way.
