Camille, we loved learning your story, but I think our audience is going to appreciate learning about the product side of your story as well. So, maybe you can help bring everyone up to speed?
Experience the whimsical Cozy Christmas book series just in time for the holiday season! The best-selling novels follow different heroines as they unravel unique capers in their cozy small towns. Cabrera’s latest cozy mystery, Broadcasting Christmas Cheer, recently landed on six different Amazon charts. How do you maintain quality and consistency even as you grow and scale?
My books are a skill test for my current self and inevitable practice for my future self. Writing walks a fine line between artistic oddity and literary drivel. Over the years, I’ve learned that quality demands a keen eye and a strong attention to detail. I’m fortunate to work with a strong group of editors willing to check for errors. I’ve grown less attached to the drafts and more attached to the final quality of the works. Each novel has its own creative process. For example, some stories take months to conceptualize while others only require a few weeks. I’m more inspired to write with every completed book. Writing allows me to romp freely around my own mind. The writing process has grown more elegant and allowed me to expand my horizons with every published tale.
Have you tried any fun, non-traditional marketing ideas? If so, we’d love to hear the story and details.
As an artist, I was never a fan of marketing. I prefer to allow my books to speak for themselves. With that in mind, I enjoy dabbling in unconventional marketing. Sometimes I like to place a few copies of my novels inside the Little Free Libraries hosted by homes and businesses alike.
Recently, I have enjoyed randomly popping into bookstores and asking if they have a few copies of my books. It’s always fun signing a few copies of stock between meetings or writing sessions.
What has been the biggest surprise for you along this journey?
Crafting stories has given me more perspective than I could have ever imagined. I’ve learned so much about myself while growing as an author. This journey taught me about the importance of grit and grace. Some days the writing comes more slowly than others (that’s not to say the story won’t be completed).
With time, I’ve found more questions than answers. I’ve learned to ask more questions while growing more comfortable in my own domain. Writing has encouraged me to trust my gut and expand my ambitions. I now dabble all over the mystery genre. My books range from cozy mystery to noir because I’ve learned to fully enjoy the art of creation. Given my age, I’m not afraid to take creative risks. My body of work (currently over 10 novels and 5 short stories) has time to grow alongside with my career. I enjoy leaping into the proverbial air and seeing if readers will catch me. Part of the process includes falling, but sometimes you’re able to fly.
