We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tempestt Harris . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tempestt below.
Alright, Tempestt thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I took a risk by building platforms and opening up opportunities in the arts community in the Carolinas. As an artist myself, helping other artists make it in their careers is important to me. Many doubt the validity and value of the fashion and design industry here. Through my experience and what I’ve seen in the Carolina’s , the talent is worth the risk. I was born and raised in Charlotte, so giving back without expecting a return feels like the right thing to do. Our teams have created opportunities for artists and models to book NYFW shows and gain television recognition for their outstanding work. Lately, Good Look Productions, Level21 Magazine, and my film production team “By Tempestt” have taken a risk by filming a few fashion films to support the arts. We’ve now partnered with The North West School Of The Arts to make it all possible. We are creating a short film scene with the costume design students from Ms. Brendel’s class. We are also sharing with the students some industry secrets to success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a film director and an executive producer/director for Level21 Magazine. I primarily handle the creative vision execution for projects and direct unique films for different clients. I also help our clients create brand visuals for their companies and clients while supporting the arts community in my spare time. Storytelling on a national and international level is close to my heart. I want people to know that God can give you the power to do anything if you are responsible and honest. It takes consistency, discipline, and keeping God first. Always show up for family and keep that the main priority.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Our reputation was built based on love. We love what we do, and I am passionate about the arts. We go above and beyond for our clients, and we always deliver. I believe a lot of our success comes from effective communication and consistency in our media company’s brand identity.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Production is pure teamwork. What helps manage a team is understanding that everyone’s job and duty are valuable. Making sure they know they are valuable and recognizing that privately and in front of everyone when the time comes. Having no ego and focusing on getting the work completed is a huge contributor. I’m big on allowing people to have their own process as long as deadlines are met, and we don’t micromanage our team. Treating people like human beings and not expecting them to love your business as much as you do. Always reward people when they go above and beyond because it’s rare. Lastly, look to hire people who are more skilled and smarter than you; this will build a very strong team.
