For some, family businesses mean spending more quality time with their families, financial freedom and so much more while for others it feels like a prison sentence. There are so many pros and cons, positives and negatives and so we wanted to create a space for folks who have experiences with family businesses to discuss the pros and cons.

Birch and Belle is currently run by my family and I. It’s made up of myself, my dad, and my brother. I am all about family business but I will say that it might not be for everyone. I’m lucky that I have such a good relationship with them. I’m aware that everyone might not have this special relationahiop and it’s the most impoprtant aspect of a successfully run family business. I think a family business can be a wonderful thing if done correctly. When my husband and I decided to break free from corporate America and branch out on entrepreneurship, I invited my family to come along. We trained my family in the business. We love being a family business. Mandi and I were both stay-at-home moms for the majority of our kids lives. Trying to jump back into the workforce after that is very difficult. There aren’t many opportunities when you have years long employment gaps. We were able to build a business off of our passions, and employ ourselves. Having a stake in the success of the business makes you work harder and put your all into your craft. Also we are best friends so it’s a very relaxed, fun, and understanding environment.
