For some, family businesses mean spending more quality time with their families, financial freedom and so much more while for others it feels like a prison sentence. There are so many pros and cons, positives and negatives and so we wanted to create a space for folks who have experiences with family businesses to discuss the pros and cons.

Contrary to popular belief; I believe starting a business with family can be a beautiful, and lucrative experience. Truly, what is better than not only one family member achieving generational wealth, but two, or even three? With that being said, I also believe plunging into any business without knowing the weaknesses, strengths, attributes, and history of a partner can be fatal financially, and mentally. Our business is only possible with the help of our family. From my husband Eric Rowan who is our chef and co-owner, Mama Lisa, my mother who taught me everything I know and all the rest of the family always being there to help out when we need servers, give advise or simply be our taste testers. Now for some families, a family business would be a DISASTER. It’s certainly not always easy to work with family and I think that’s because they’re who we feel most comfortable around, so we’re quicker to snap at them, or be bossier than we would be to an employee we don’t know so well.
