Today we’d like to introduce you to Timi Orosz
Hi Timi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a young child living in Hungary, I always felt that I didn’t belong there. Not just to the country. To this whole planet. Other kids my age didn’t seem to have the same questions occupying their minds: where does the Universe begin? And what’s outside of that? Where does our soul come from? What is a soul? Luckily, my mother was into positive thinking, and we had a ton of books in the living room about psychology, NLP, rewiring our thinking and things like that. I think having access to such materials at a young age was some kind of cosmic lifeline. Especially since the Internet wasn’t a thing back then.
Even though my parents were Christians, they never actively practised the religion nor forced me to follow that path. In my teenage years, I was turning to all sorts of sacred and occult books to try to find answers to ‘Why am I here? What is my purpose?’. The answers were not there and I quickly realized that no matter what’s on the cover of these books, the underlying theme is the same: seek within. I also explored philosophy, psychology and even esoteric teachings but still felt frustrated.
At the age of 18, after facing my first major failure of not getting into university, I realized one big truth about life: it is our decision-making process that creates life. So there and then I made a decision. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I chose to see life as full of opportunities. Especially during difficult times. This is how I ended up leaving my home country at 18 and spending the next 20 years exploring various career paths while learning from different cultures as I switched my home address across 5 countries more times than I could count now.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being The Foreigner in another country brings a ton of challenges with it. The number of times I was told to go back to my country is insane. Those insults really landed on deaf ears though however, when I was working in one of the largest bank’s call centres in the UK I never forget this one customer. I was trying to help her minimize and manage her debt when she cut me off and asked to be transferred to someone who’s based in the UK. I was already fluent in English but I had an accent. The way I spoke was enough for her to make an assumption about me. This is when I realised a second truth about life: assuming things without knowing the full story can cause unnecessary sadness and pain. Since then, I’ve been doing my best not to jump to conclusions and actively trying to see a situation from another person’s perspective. Empathy is something that should be taught more and strengthened starting in school. Imagine a world where people would have more empathy for one another. How many conflicts, fights and suffering could we avoid this way?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
That childhood frustration of not finding answers to life’s big questions also showed up in my career eventually. As a burnt-out CEO at 32, I felt I was letting myself down. I felt I wasn’t “playing” anymore at work. I became a different person who acted and looked all professional while avoiding certain topics because a senior leader shouldn’t do this or that. I quit. I wanted playfulness back in my life. I got rid of most of my things and left the island I was living on with a couple of suitcases. I visited my family and friends all across Europe then jumped on a plane alone to Sri Lanka with a backpack.
Long story short, I ended up living in a jungle for a few months which led me to understand myself more. I realized the third truth about life: if something doesn’t allow you to be your authentic self, it’s not serving you. I knew I wanted to be my real self at work as well. So I got a director role in Barcelona which allowed me to be me. And within a year I finally gathered my courage to figure out what is really ‘my thing’. I knew I loved spiritual development and I was also really good at being a business visionary. My natural talents in communication and marketing also ended up on my list. And adding my never-ending thirst for knowledge into the mix meant I needed to surround myself with people who also loved exploring big questions about life.
This is how my business, Connect One Marketing, was born. A fun place for me and my clients while genuinely creating value for the spiritual community. For people who are also on a quest to find answers. People who want to make our world a better place.
I rolled my various skills and experiences into something that finally fit me. I get to be completely me at work, I can support spiritual entrepreneurs with their business and marketing needs while I’m also connecting with incredibly inspiring people from all over the world.
Having created something in the overcrowded business space that’s built on genuine positive impact and authenticity is definitely something I feel proud of. I tailor my spiritual business mentoring services to every client and I am very vocal about ditching the sleazy marketing methods and replacing them with more aligned and mindful approaches.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My number one go-to app which keeps me sane as an entrepreneur, might be a surprise to you. It’s Notes. I have created over 20 folders to make my life more organized digitally. Everything from business ideas to content drafts all the way through favourite recipes and self-reflecting prompts. I build a solid system of having instant access to important things in my life in the most minimalist way. We can get so easily sidetracked by the latest shiny gadget or app that we end up not utilizing them properly.
