Today we’d like to introduce you to Super Dave Quinn, Cecd

Hi Super Dave, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

I began my career following my graduation from Texas A&M, working in the oil fields of West Texas for a trucking company that specialized in moving drilling rigs and providing steel pipes for well workovers. After paying off my college debt and starting a family, I transitioned into public service as the Assistant City Manager in Levelland, Texas. It was there that I discovered my passion for economic development.

Pursuing my newfound interest, I earned an International Economic Development Council certification. Over the past two decades, I have dedicated myself to the field, working across Texas as a professional economic developer. 2018, I co-founded Day One Experts, an on-demand economic development and small business consulting firm. Our team is proud to serve North Texas communities like Fairview and Melissa, as well as private real estate developers and small businesses nationwide.

In 2020, I launched the Texas Economic Development Connection (TexasEDConnection), a digital content marketing cooperative aimed at helping Texas communities harness the power of digital storytelling to generate leads. The TexasEDConnection connects out-of-state small to medium-sized business owners with economic development professionals in Texas, facilitating expansion and relocation opportunities.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are continuing to expand our focus to include foreign direct investment marketing for our member communities. This involves organizing economic development trade missions abroad to assist foreign companies in establishing and growing their operations in Texas.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

One thing I’ve learned is that there are very few smooth roads. While my journey has been better than most, and I’m blessed in every way, it has not been easy. Working in the public sector comes with a lot of heartbreaks. We don’t do it for the money, which makes it even harder when projects fall apart or don’t cross the finish line. It’s incredibly challenging to be innovative in the public sector. The environment is not very risk-tolerant, and unfortunately, innovation is fraught with risk.

I’ve been an innovator my entire career, which meant facing a lot of headwinds. On more than one occasion, I was told I was crazy. They say the difference between a hallucination and a vision is your ability to get others to see it. I’ve been blessed with the ability to communicate my vision and turn it into some pretty awesome realities throughout my career. Understanding who I am and the value I bring to the table has helped me the most. There were times I was at the wrong table, but I didn’t let that stop me—I just found a different table.

My faith has given me the ability to be resilient, which has been crucial to my success. In the world of economic development, there are constant challenges and setbacks. Whether it’s a project falling through, navigating bureaucratic red tape, or facing economic downturns, the ability to persevere through adversity is essential.

Resilience has allowed me to maintain a forward-thinking approach and continue innovating despite significant obstacles. It’s about having the tenacity to keep pushing forward, learning from failures, and staying committed to fostering economic growth and development.

Another vital characteristic is empathy. Understanding the needs and challenges of the communities, businesses, and individuals I work with has enabled me to create tailored solutions that truly make a difference.
