Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Nagy

Hi Sarah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

My name is Sarah Nagy, I’m a former quant and data scientist. I founded an analytics automation startup, Seek AI, in September 2021. Before that, I led the consumer data team at Citadel’s Ashler Capital, and prior to Citadel, led the quant arms at two successfully exited startups and developed algorithmic trading strategies at ITG. I have a Master in Finance degree from Princeton and dual bachelor’s degrees in Astrophysics and Business Economics from UCLA.

I started Seek AI because as a data scientist, I was often frustrated with the challenges that my non-technical colleagues faced in accessing and understanding data–which was ultimately at the root of a routine data bottleneck problem impacting my ability to analyze the insights that mattered more. With Seek AI, I set out to make data more accessible to everyone in an organization through a natural language interface for data powered by Generative AI.

My vision for Seek is to use the potential of large language models for data analytics code generation and their application in making data queries accessible to non-technical users. Seek AI allows data teams and business teams to ask their data questions in plain language, automate generating SQL code and extract accurate insights in real-time. With this platform in hand, data teams and business teams no longer have to wait months for insights due to a data bottleneck.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

When I was starting out, I didn’t have a huge network to work with and while I had some experience directing teams, taking on entrepreneurship and founding Seek AI required a much more significant effort. It took several months for me to build the connections I needed and learn about everything I needed to get done early on for a startup. I had an opportunity to learn from and work with some amazing people that helped me in the earliest days of Seek to put a foundation in place for where we are now. In many ways I approached entrepreneurship by learning as I went and in my experience, while it’s not always smooth sailing, it’s a terrific way to grow and improve.

Another challenge exists in the nature of the cutting-edge technology we are building at Seek. There’s no room for error in this industry, and coming from a data science background I’ve experienced that fact firsthand. This is why it’s so important that Seek offers highly accurate data insight generation. My team and I have spent countless hours improving our technology, building confidence level estimations in our system, creating an option in our technology to keep a human in the loop for QAing and ensuring that there is never a question about the precision of the insights, to ensure the best accuracy possible. In fact, we are proud that Seek was the first model to surpass 90% accuracy on Yale’s prestigious Spider test benchmark.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?

I think the biggest lesson that I, and everyone, took away from the COVID-19 crisis was how extensive of a paradigm shift the world can experience from a new and unprecedented global health threat. The business world, society, and consumer behaviors all changed in response to the global pandemic – in some ways accelerating trends for the future of work that were already taking shape and in others setting back social interactions in ways that are still recovering.

On a more personal level, the pandemic gave me and many people I know the opportunity to reflect about what was most important in life. After reflecting on what I personally wanted to accomplish and contribute to the future of work, the opportunity to start Seek AI in 2021 was a natural decision for me.
