Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Muller
Hi Paula, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Santiago, Chile, in the early 70s, as the first daughter of a young, hardworking family. Growing up in Chile shaped much of who I am today. I was blessed with a loving and supportive family who constantly encouraged me to pursue my dreams. That kind of encouragement is invaluable; knowing that, no matter what, your family will stand by you whether you succeed or fail, gives you the freedom to explore, take risks, and grow. It’s a gift I’ve carried with me throughout my life.
I lived in Chile until I graduated from university, and from there, I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to study in Switzerland. Switzerland holds a special place in my heart, not just for the beauty of its landscapes but also for the experiences and family connections I built there. It’s the place where I met my husband, and his family embraced me with open arms. His parents, survivors of wartime childhoods, are some of the most remarkable and kind people I know.
In the late 90s, my husband and I moved to the United States, where we settled in a small, picturesque town along the coast of New Jersey. This town welcomed us, and it has been our home for over 25 years. My time here has been one of professional development and personal growth. But in 2015, I made a bold decision to embark on a new journey—entrepreneurship. I knew very little about running a business at the time, but I had a vision and, more importantly, the unwavering support of my husband and family. That’s when I founded Sociavi, which we have since rebranded to CareLink360.
The motivation behind starting my company was deeply personal. Growing up, I was incredibly close to my grandmother. Even after moving far away, our bond never diminished. The importance of family connections has always been at the core of who I am. But as I reflected on my grandmother’s life, I recognized the challenges older generations face today, especially with technology. While younger generations easily connect through smartphones, social media, and video calls, many older adults find themselves left behind, leading to feelings of isolation.
I wanted to bridge that gap. I wanted to create something that would allow families to stay connected across generations, even when they’re far apart. That mission became the foundation of my company.
As I dove deeper into the world of senior living, I became acutely aware of the challenges posed by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. This realization expanded my focus toward helping not only older adults but also those affected by dementia and their families. Through CareLink360, and my volunteer work with organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association, I’ve committed myself to providing solutions that prioritize simplicity and ease of use. Our products are designed to ensure that even those living with dementia can stay connected and engaged with their loved ones.
At CareLink360, our goal is simple: to preserve the connections that matter most. Family, love, and support are what sustain us, and I’ve made it my mission to ensure that no one, no matter their age or condition, is left feeling alone and isolated.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely, there have been—and continue to be—challenges throughout my journey. However, I’m trying to reframe obstacles as challenges, and as opportunities to learn and grow. Life constantly presents situations you didn’t anticipate, and sometimes it can feel like “yet something else” lands in your path. But someone once said that challenges are simply situations you need to break down into smaller pieces. When you do that, you can assess each part, work through them, and find a way forward. This mindset shift can be invaluable in how one approaches both personal life and work.
It doesn’t mean these challenges are easy. Far from it. But changing how you see them—seeing them as solvable, as stepping stones rather than roadblocks—makes all the difference. Adapting to the unknown helps build resilience, and I’ve found that this resilience strengthens not just our emotional well-being but also our cognitive reserve. This mental agility can serve us well as we age, giving us tools to navigate life’s complexities.
In both entrepreneurship and life, the unknown is a constant companion. Starting a business without prior experience was one of the greatest challenges I faced. But rather than being paralyzed by uncertainty, I learned to approach it as methodically as I could. I wasn’t always successful or methodological; but by breaking a challenge down into manageable tasks, finding a group of persons who support you, and leaning on them, you can move ahead. So, just remind yourself each time you encounter a hurdle, that it’s not a failure but a challenge to be solved.
This mindset also applies to my work with Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Caring for someone living with these conditions is filled with daily challenges, often unpredictable ones. But by focusing on solutions, on what can be done instead of what cannot, we build resilience not just in ourselves but in those we care for.
Life is full of unknowns, but if we can learn to adapt and face them head-on, we come out stronger. It’s about being open to growth, learning from each challenge, and knowing that every step, no matter how small, takes us forward.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At CareLink360, we’re revolutionizing the aging experience with compassion and innovation. Our mission is to Change The Way The World Ages by providing the safest and simplest way for older adults to stay connected. We offer more than just communication—it’s a lifeline for older adults and their families. Our platform is designed to be intuitive, safe, and enriching, offering medication reminders, activity prompts, and educational resources at the tap of a screen. But CareLink360 is more than technology; we’re creating lasting bonds and ensuring every older adult feels loved and supported, every step of the way.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
To succeed, I believe there are a few essential qualities that stand out: perseverance, humility, and adaptability. Success rarely comes as quickly as we’d like; often, it takes far longer than we anticipate. That’s where perseverance becomes so important. You have to stay committed to the journey, even when things don’t go according to plan. But this perseverance has to be fueled by something deeper—a belief in the mission you’re pursuing. When you truly believe in the value of what you’re doing, it gives you the energy to keep going, even when the road gets tough.
However, perseverance alone isn’t enough. Humility is just as crucial. You need to recognize that the mission is bigger than you and that it’s not about maintaining full control or being right all the time. Success often requires being open to the input of others, even when their opinions challenge your own perspective. Humility allows you to see the bigger picture, to understand that collaboration and learning from others are necessary to achieve your goal. It also means accepting that your contributions may shift as the mission evolves—and being okay with that.
Finally, adaptability is key. Life and business are constantly changing, and you have to be willing to change with them. Opportunities and challenges will arise that you didn’t foresee, and success depends on how well you can adapt to those moments. Staying rigid or clinging too tightly to a single plan can prevent you from seeing the opportunities that emerge in times of uncertainty.
In short, success requires perseverance to keep moving forward, humility to embrace others’ insights and recognize the mission’s importance over personal control, and adaptability to evolve as circumstances change. These qualities together allow you to navigate the long and often unpredictable path toward achieving your goals.
