Today we’d like to introduce you to Nishaea Richardson
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always worked in corporate administrative support positions. From hospital registration, voucher examiners, administrative assistant, and now Human Resources. I have a passion for helping and educating others and was able to fulfill that passion in my corporate administrative roles. I have also taken those passions for the last 3+ years into my business as a money coach (aka The PlayMoney Coach), and it is truly one of the most rewarding experiences to help my clients build a healthier relationship with money and watch them really start enjoying life without the financial stress that many people carry.
While it would be nice to say that I was always good with money, I actually have more fulfilment to share that my relationship with money was not always the greatest. As someone who was a people pleaser, I used money as a way to keep people around me happy and close. Until I had enough of the maxed-out credit cards, bad credit, personal loans I could barely manage, and barely making it from paycheck to paycheck, but yet showing an outward image that looked like I had it all together. That was no way of living, and a better quality of life was waiting for me. I just needed to believe that I could experience it.
Through my own financial hardships and resilience to change my narrative to one that has me in a space of financial peace of mind. I believe that my journey was the path I needed to take to empower others to take control of their money and allow themselves to experience a better quality of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is not one person that can say their whole life has been without obstacles and challenges. That applies to me as well. I have found that with change it is usually accompanied with growing pains and sometimes isolation along with loneliness.
The growing pains come from breaking out of the comfort zone and sticking to what we know. I had to do somethings that may be uncomfortable at first, such a leaving both a job and relationship I was in for over a decade when I knew it’s what I needed to do to get to the end result I desired. It was totally worth it. I continue to make these uncomfortable moves regularly now.
Then the isolation. I learned quickly that not everyone is ready for my growth and won’t understand why I am doing certain things. Therefore, it will be required to focus on myself and my path to “success” without the support of those I may typically look to for guidance or understanding. Once I realized that this was making changes for me and it’s okay if they don’t get it or want to come along with me. That’s when I was able to unapologetically make things happen.
Lastly, the loneliness. Yes, even if we are surrounded by friends and family, it can be lonely if we do not have a community, a mentor, coach, or someone who understands why we want a better quality of life or why we are taking risk to get to the next level.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wealth Phenom LLC d.b.a Shes the Budget Guru?
As a money coach (The Play Money Coach), I started my business of helping women build a healthier relationship with money because I saw how much the quality of my life improved once I decided to focus on my self-worth and finances.
I work with high achieving women and for-profit & non-profit organizations by helping them improve their relationship with money to become more fulfilled and have peace in their everyday life. As well as more play money to do the things they enjoy! While working together, I help my clients create a simple money management plan that allows them to manage their money with ease and plan ahead months at a time to take away the uncertainty that comes with reoccurring expenses and every life. As well as increase their savings and pay off debt faster. Understanding that money is more than spreadsheets and banks accounts, I work with my clients to elevate their mindset and rewrite their money story for lifelong changes, not just the time we are working together.
Every chance I get to work with my clients and see how much our work together contributes to them feeling confident and excited about life again, it motivates me to keep going to help more people.
I am most proud of being able to work with my clients at all income levels. Through my community partnerships I am able to offer free financial wellness to those who are not in a position to invest in my one-to-one services. While also being an employee benefit to organizations employees by having financial wellness as a service to improve their overall wellness, while improving the organizations retention rates, productivity and morale. This business model is important to me because I understand what it feels like to not have access to services because I wasn’t in a position to invest at that moment. I know that most of my clients would prefer to work privately to get personalized support so I am also thankful I can provide that for those women who are ready for the elevated level of support when they are ready.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for networking is go with an open mind and be curious. I know growing up I was always told to “stop being nosey”, but I have learned that people love talking about themselves and if you let them talk long enough, they will tell you everything you need to hear to identify if they are someone you want to continue to build a relationship with for potential partnerships or collaborations. We may also find that they could be a potential mentor for you as well.
Additionally, networking is not always easy for me. As someone who prefers intimate settings and to be home, there is a lot of pep talking that happens before networking events. For anyone who thinks networking is easy for everyone “in the room” it’s not! However, keep the end goal in mind, such as a set amount of people you will connect with and try to have a much fun as possible in the process. Also, bring a friend! The friend becomes that safe space when you need to remover yourself to refill your social meter. Just remember, if you can’t find a friend to go with you, don’t miss out on an opportunity. Do it alone, even if it’s only for an hour. You will be proud of yourself.
