Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikell Reed Carroll.
Hi Mikell, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a small town in Maine. I was raised the oldest of five children by a single mom in an economically disadvantaged household.
My mom taught me that education could be a way to escape poverty and so I decided to work hard in school and graduated with honors and became the first person in my family to attend college.
After college I attended law schhol and then worked for five years in non-profit law, helping more than 6000 victims of crime rebuild their lives.
I became involved in pageants to earn scholarships for college and law school and to help myself build confidence, as I was very shy.
I competed in my first pageant at age 20 in the Miss America scholarship program at the local level.
I was terrified and decided I didn’t like pageants. A year later I was still broke and shy so I decided to compete again. I started to enjoy it and the rest is history.
I eventually was crowned Mrs Maine International in 2016, Mrs DC Tourism in 2027, World’s Mrs Tourism in 2018, International Ms USA 2020 and then Ms USA Universe 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. I knew nothing about pageantry. I had a lot to learn and when I started out I had very little money, so I couldn’t afford coaches. I had a lot of losses to start, but then I started winning.
Eventually I became an expert and wanted to pass on my expertise and knowledge to others to help them succeed, so I decided to start coaching and fell in love with empowering women to be their very best.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have a full-service pageant coaching firm.
I provide expert pageant coaching and consulting to women and girls of all ages across the globe.
I help prepare them for all aspects of competition as well as help them develop a business plan and Queens Legacy plan. These help them to find greater purpose in Pageantry and within themselves.
I work on skills like public speaking, mindset, interview prep, confidence, walking, image, wardrobe selection, marketing, branding, social media and mindset, to name a few!
What sets me apart is my skills as an attorney that helped me be very strategic in preparation, as well as my tailored approach.
What I’m most proud of are all of my incredible clients and the hard work they do. I pride myself on having the hardest working women in the room!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Christmas was always a favorite holiday of mine, so I cherish the many beautiful Christmas memories I have; from Christmas dinners to favorite gifts and going ice skating and sledding.
