Melissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the passion and dedication that have propelled me to where I am today. With 10+ years of experience in the beauty industry, I have had the privilege of turning my passion into a successful career.

My story began with school clients, allowing me to do their hair and makeup, which then hired me for weddings. After graduating a commission based job hired me, that lead me to other paths to perfect my crafts. As I honed my skills and built a loyal client base, I recognized the need for my target market includes individuals who celebrate their uniqueness and often affiliate with the goth, punk, or alternative scenes, drawn to the beauty of darker, edgier aesthetics.. This realization sparked my entrepreneurial spirit, and I decided to go solo after 5 years, I have stated before that I kept changing my business to “fit in” but after sometime, it got tiring and exhausting so I threw the towel and made room for the real me, and that’s when Krypt Aesthetics was born.

Through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence, my business has grown and evolved over the years. Today, I am proud to gain the recognition from estheticians, an article dedicated to my business, publishing my first ever online ebook Brazilian training manual and of course the clients I have encountered.

As I look to the future, I remain dedicated to delivering outstanding aesthetic experiences that empower our clients to embody their unique beauty, confidence, and self-expression.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I faced numerous struggles along the way, including staying in jobs where I didn’t feel valued. However, my loyalty to my clients kept me going. I didn’t want them to receive subpar service from someone else.

Unfortunately, I also encountered unscrupulous bosses who attempted to exploit me financially and compromise my moral values. Despite these challenges, I persevered.

The sacrifices, setbacks, and hardships were immense, but they ultimately made me stronger. I leveraged each negative experience as an opportunity to learn and grow, ensuring I wouldn’t repeat those mistakes in my own business.

In retrospect, I could have ventured out on my own much sooner. However, the idea of entrepreneurship wasn’t encouraged or discussed during my time in cosmetology school.

To aspiring estheticians and cosmetologists, I offer this advice: acquire the necessary knowledge, develop a strong work ethic, and prepare yourself for the challenges that come with entrepreneurship. It won’t be easy, but with perseverance and dedication, you can overcome any obstacle.

What do you like and dislike about the city?

I have a bit of a complicated relationship with Las Vegas. While I appreciate the city’s vibrant atmosphere, I sometimes find it challenging to operate a business here. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that many people in Las Vegas tend to prioritize affordability over quality, often seeking out free or very cheap services. As a business owner who takes pride in providing exceptional services, this mindset can be frustrating.

Additionally, I wish there were more alternative communities and like-minded individuals in areas like Henderson, rather than them being concentrated in the Arts District.
