Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Medeiros.

Hi Joyce, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

I’m Joyce, co-founder and CEO of Investrio, and my journey has always been shaped by resilience and finance. I was born in Brazil and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, by a single mom who instilled in me the value of hard work and perseverance. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the challenges of stretching every dollar, managing debt, and planning for the future when resources were scarce. These experiences sparked my lifelong curiosity about how money works.

I earned a leadership scholarship through the Posse Foundation to attend Bucknell University, where I built the foundation for my career in finance. At Goldman Sachs, I worked my way onto the trading floor, fascinated by the inner workings of financial markets and constantly seeking ways to improve processes through technology. This passion led me to Quantitative Brokers, an early-stage fintech where I helped scale the business across Europe and Asia, culminating in its acquisition by Deutsche Börse Group.

Still, I felt a pull to do more for individuals navigating financial challenges. A conversation with a friend reignited my passion for giving back, leading me to coach over 100 clients on financial literacy. Through this work, I realized that solopreneurs—especially women—were underserved, facing fragmented tools and limited access to resources.

In 2023, I founded Investrio to fill that gap. Our hybrid finance platform seamlessly combines business and personal financial management, empowering solopreneurs to achieve financial independence and build wealth. Rooted in my personal journey, Investrio reflects my commitment to creating lasting change. And there’s no better place than New York—a city of ambition and diversity—to bring this vision to life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

In short, no, the road has been far from smooth. Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has been marked by its fair share of challenges. After college, I grappled with the weight of student debt, which added constant pressure as I tried to build a career and establish financial stability. Early in my career, I experienced burnout from long hours and the unrelenting pace of Wall Street, where success often came at the expense of mental and physical health.

On top of that, the stress of supporting my family financially has always been a heavy burden but also a motivator. As the first in my family to navigate this world of high-stakes finance, I felt a deep responsibility to ensure my family had stability, even as I worked to find my own footing.

Most recently, I faced one of my biggest challenges: pivoting a business that wasn’t going in the right direction. It’s incredibly difficult to acknowledge when something isn’t working and make the decision to change course. But I leaned into the lessons learned, stayed true to the mission of helping solopreneurs, and ultimately found clarity in creating Investrio.

Every bump on the road has taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and the importance of staying connected to my “why.” These struggles have shaped not only who I am but also the vision and heart behind Investrio.

So many people have been involved in building Investrio and it is truly the power of community. My co-founder, Laura Texidor, has been instrumental in shaping Investrio. Her strategic insight, a shared passion for empowering solopreneurs, and collaborative energy have elevated our mission and strengthened our approach to serving women entrepreneurs. Her partnership has been a cornerstone of our success.

Joining Techstars in the fall of 2024 was a turning point for Investrio. The mentors, investors, and peers I met through the program pushed me to think bigger, refine our vision, and navigate the challenges of building a mission-driven company. Their guidance has been invaluable in shaping both the business and my growth as a founder.

My family has been incredibly supportive, including my husband, who has been instrumental; without his support and guidance, often his words of encouragement, I would not have taken the leap. I am forever thankful for his partnership.
My mother is my first mentor, and watching her work tirelessly to provide for our family taught me resilience, determination, and the value of hard work. Her example is what drives me to create tools that help women like her succeed.
