Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Wint.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to writing, storytelling and connecting with people, which made public relations a natural fit for me. I began my PR career in Sydney Australia in real estate and have since worked in London and now in Vancouver where my passion for supporting entrepeneurs and small businesses has grown stronger. My career has taken me through various industries, but at its core, my work has always been about giving brands and individuals meaningful platforms to tell their stories and connect with their audiences.
I love the collaborative nature of PR – finding the right angles, crafting a compelling pitch, and seeing a story earn media coverage, strengthen relationships, and communicate messages effectively. I am also the author of a children’s book, have contributed to anthologies and am a parenting and lifestyle writer.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The are no media careers without challenges! Media and PR are ever changing and always evolving. When I began in PR there was no social media, there were far more local publications than there are today and there were no influencers. Media landscapes shift, algorithms change, trusted platforms shift and what worked yesterday might not work today. Staying adaptable has been key.
One struggle, more at the beginning of my career, was helping people understand the value of PR. ROI isn’t as easy to calculate as it is with advertising, especially in the digital landscape. PR is also a slow game. It isn’t as immediate as paid advertising, and it takes time to build relationships and earn media coverage. Educating clients on the long-term benefits has been an ongoing part of my work.
Another challenge has been balancing my passion for working with small businesses with the reality of small budgets. I love supporting entrepreneurs and local brands, but PR can be a significant investment. Finding sustainable ways to work together—whether through one-on-one sessions, group support, or DIY resources—has been something I’ve worked hard to refine over the years.
A final struggle I still haven’t conquered is finding balance—PR requires a lot of energy, creativity, and responsiveness, which can make it hard to set boundaries. When you’re helping others share their stories, it’s easy to get caught up in the momentum and let work take over. Since having my two kids I’ve had to work on this a lot to be a present parent but also responsive for clients. Boundaries for me are a work in progress!
