Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylene Llewellyn
Jaylene, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey in the permanent makeup industry in 2021, six months after having my first son. My first training was for ombre powder brows & machine strokes. Later on I travelled to the states for additional education in paramedical tattooing for scars, stretch marks and scalp micropigmentation. I truly fell in love with this line of work and ran my business in the evening and weekends while working my regular job in the medical field during the day. I did this until August of 2023, when I gave birth to my second child. It was then that I decided I was going to commit to my business/passion full time so that I could truly give it my all and be present for my children!
I can hands down say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made but I definitely couldn’t have done it without the support and encouragement from my husband! He is now starting his career in paramedical tattoo and seeing SMP clients who struggle with hairloss.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely NOT! Definitely a lot of tears lol. There has been more trials and tribulations than I can count but I would have to say some of the biggest difficulties was staying the path when things got difficult, when business was slow or in the beginning when I was learning and trying to get my techniques right.
There was a lot of research involved, practicing, investing and countless hours of brainstorming how we are going to make it work while juggling our regular jobs and a family.
At the end of the day, the most important factors were believing in yourself no matter what, having faith even when things get dark and not allowing the difficulties to hold us back or affect our marriage/family. We worked as a team to figure things out and never gave up.
I also found this work to be very rewarding, getting to help others feel good about themselves, to help improve or heal parts about themselves such as old wounds/scars from injuries, accidents, or medical issues.
We’ve been impressed with Wholesome Empire YYC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of my business is Wholesome Empire aka Wholesome Empire YYC. Our goal has always been to create a space where people feel welcome and at ease the minute they walk through our doors. How do you think about happiness?
I love running my own business and having a schedule that allows me to be more present for my family.
But I also love seeing my clients get great results and making them happy! It fills my heart. To know that I can make a difference, even if it’s just a single person.
