Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Davis
Hi Ebony , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After working a few years in government contracting and having multiple bad days, I realized that I enjoyed helping people and was at my best when doing so. So, I went back to school to earn my Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration. My focus in school and after has been helping marginalized communities obtain wellness and improve their ability to obtain social, economic and political justice.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my line of work, one of the greatest challenges I face is finding the equilibrium between the ideals of wellness and justice and the harsh reality. With over a decade of experience in various bureaucratic systems, criminal justice, public schools, and healthcare, I have come to recognize the deeply ingrained inequities and colonization within our systems. It is exasperating to operate within systems that claim to be just, yet consistently perpetuate discrimination and disenfranchisement of people of color and those from low-income backgrounds.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Butler & Davis Consulting?

At the individual level, we aim to help people gain a deeper understanding of themselves and systems while building their capacity to live a self-directed life. On the community level, we focus on helping communities respond to their diverse needs through education, civic engagement, and resource development. On the organizational level, we strive to help leadership and staff create a prosocial workplace environment.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of the things I enjoy the most is being creative and learning about different spiritual practices. As part of my journey I have become a student and teacher of meditation. To share my lessons I learned I created Color Me to Discovery: An Adult Coloring Book and Journal, which has different meditation exercises and reflection prompts to help women embrace their inner goddess. I also wrote The Rhymes and Hues of Ebony, a poetic coloring book for the creative self-reflection and relaxation of the African American woman. This book was my homage to the various life experience we encounter as Black women. My most recent publication was Protecting Your Mental Health While Black in the Workpalce. I wrote this book, because in schools they prompt the American Dream as something anyone can obtain but they do not talk about the obstacles that face first generation college students and Black people in the workplace. I want everyone who reads this book to know that YOU ARE SPECIAL and DESERVE being treated with DIGNITY and RESPECT. And more importantly, I want you to know and believe that, YES, YOU CAN create a lifestyle that facilitates health, wealth, happiness, and peace. I write this book not as someone who has made it but as someone who is trying to make it. Someone who understands what it is like to be stuck in between two worlds. It can be a struggle to find your “professional image” or the right path to have all the things you desire. And that is because the system is set up that way. The system is not designed for young Black first-generation students to succeed. But that does not mean you cannot succeed. You must define what success is for you and pursue it. I have also launched an on-demand training platform that will offer courses for people to be productive, emotionally well, and change agents in the community.
