Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Sabine Charles
Hi Dr Sabine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The journey toward my career choice was initiated at CUNY-Baruch College, where I took a double major in French and Spanish languages for the love of traveling and a mission to assist the world’s growing economies. My first career objective was to work for the United Nations, but the hiring freeze at graduation changed the route.
I participated in a Career Job Day at my university. The event revolved around accountancy, so I had to alter my approach and choose companies kept from other students with the exact major in accounting. I then collected their business cards and mailed them letters stating that I was interested in international business. Based on this approach I landed a job with Citibank’s global team and worked in Brazil and Panama.
During my employment as a fraud investigator, controller, consultant, as well as an audit executive both with other corporations and Fortune 500 organizations, I have acquired several valuable lessons:1. Internal auditing is a practice crucial for strategic management within organizations.
2. The significance of certifications and advanced degrees is in the fast-track career advancement of an individual.
3. Analysis of the significance of assertiveness, communication, and cooperation in conflict management in the corporate leading positions.
These experiences led me to start Charles Financial Strategies LLC in the year 2011 and involve internal auditing as a strategic corporate function with the slogan, ‘Talk business, think internal audit. ’ In the year 2016, I initiated the TAPA Institute for professional courses like CPA and CIA that enable the professionals to prepare for the higher level of business environment. More recently, I created a hybrid program called Leadership MEQ; the goal is to create a generation of leaders to make the corporate realm of the future. In addition we offer virtual summits and in person international retreats.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In this regard, Charles Financial Strategies would emphasize that not all disruption is an opportunity for growth. It is relevant because negative disruption, also known as job loss, market insecurity, or monopolistic business practices, are possible outcomes. Such consequences result in the fundamentals involving economic stability and community welfare being at risk. As for such challenging aspects of disruption, our firm assists various organizations in managing them. As such, we aim to ensure that the actions and the thought process about managing change are efficient in contributing to work and life progression and valid in ensuring the constant reiteration of societal and business stability. Thus, in every endeavor that we try to create change using the measure of disruptive innovation, it has to be done to return positive value to society and the corporate world and not make another form of disruption. This is crucial to meeting the challenges of promoting a sustainable and favorable business climate regarding creativity, besides ethical and social accountability issues.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck I believe in the divine and family. One hot summer day in the projects in Brooklyn NY, my grandmother took my brother and I outside to sit in the courtyard in order to feel the breeze. It was 1979, and there wasn’t central air conditioning in our apartment, so we hoped we would feel a bit cooler outside. My grandmother sat in her favorite lawn chair as she fanned herself while we played a few rounds of bingo. It was humid. She watched me eyeing a few girls my age playing hopscotch and encouraged me to go talk to them. I was so excited; I grabbed my jump rope which I took with me everywhere. I ran down to the group of girls. Moments later, I ran back to my brother and grandmother crying. My grandmother did not understand why I was crying because she mostly spoke Haitian Creole, and I spoke English. My brother translated to her that the girls down the street stole my jump rope from me. Her eyes pierced through mine, and she gave me orders to go retrieve the rope, or she will make me really cry. In my heart, I knew what I needed to do, so I started off towards the girls with determination. Confronting the young girls seemed less frightening than my grandmother. Wiping my tears, I confidently told the girls” I need you to give me my rope back – right now”. They did without hesitation, but I could see the surprise in their eyes when I demanded the rope back. I think they saw me as some timid girl who would never stand up to them. When I went back to see my grandmother, I held my rope up triumphantly in front of her. She smiled at me nodding her head. I returned to playing bingo with my grandma. That was my first life lesson; do not let people take things that belong to you. I have kept it in my heart and mind ever since and you will feel the reverberations from that experience in my life and business.
