Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Stephens.
Hi Breanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started B. Stephens HR Consulting four years ago (We turn 5 in 2025!) with a clear purpose in mind: to spend more time with my family while doing work that genuinely helps others. Before launching this business, I worked in Human Resources in manufacturing and higher education industries. These experiences taught me the importance of building strong systems, managing people effectively, and the value of adaptability.
Over time, I realized that many small to mid-sized businesses struggle with HR, whether it’s compliance, employee engagement, or simply finding the right tools to manage their teams. That’s when I saw an opportunity to use my skills to fill a gap. I wanted to create a company that not only helps businesses navigate the complexities of HR but also builds programs that enhance the employer-employee relationship.
It hasn’t been without its challenges, but I’ve been intentional about staying true to what matters most—providing personalized service and creating solutions that make a real difference. Today, our team serves a variety of industries, from manufacturing, to healthcare, to construction, and we’ve built a reputation for being approachable, reliable, and solutions-focused. Starting this journey was about more than just building a business; it was about creating a legacy that aligns with my values of family, compassion, and service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road—building a business rarely is. Starting B. Stephens HR Consulting came with its share of challenges, but those struggles shaped both me and the business into what it is today.
One of the biggest hurdles was building credibility and trust as a small business in an industry where larger firms often dominate. Many potential clients were hesitant to move away from the “big-name” providers, even when those services weren’t meeting their needs. I had to be patient and persistent, focusing on delivering high-quality, tailored solutions and letting word-of-mouth recommendations build over time.
Another challenge was finding balance. I started this business to spend more time with my family, but as any entrepreneur knows, running your own company can easily take over your life. Learning to set boundaries, delegate, and trust my team were critical steps in overcoming that struggle.
There were also moments of uncertainty during the pandemic. Like many others, I had to pivot quickly to support clients through a completely different landscape—remote work, layoffs, and constantly changing regulations. It was a steep learning curve, but it also solidified our reputation as a resource for businesses during tough times.
Through it all, the struggles have been opportunities to grow, innovate, and refine our approach. It hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade the lessons or the journey for anything.
We’ve been impressed with B. Stephens HR Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At B. Stephens HR Consulting, we focus on helping small to mid-sized businesses manage their Human Resources needs in a way that makes sense for them. We specialize in providing personalized solutions for industries such as manufacturing, construction, and small healthcare or wellness practices, where businesses often don’t have the time, resources, or expertise to maintain compliance and foster a positive workplace culture.
Our services range from compliance audits and employee handbooks to performance management programs, HRIS implementation, and employee relations support. What sets us apart is our commitment to truly understanding each client’s unique challenges and goals. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter solutions; we design programs and strategies that align with the specific needs of the businesses we serve.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is our reputation for being approachable, reliable, and solutions-oriented. Clients know they can count on us to provide practical advice and implement tools that benefit both employers and employees. We’ve built strong relationships through a combination of professionalism and a personal touch, and that’s something we work hard to maintain.
For readers who might not know us, I want to emphasize that we’re not just about checking the compliance box. We aim to be a true partner in helping businesses grow by creating workplaces where people can thrive. Whether it’s navigating a complex employee situation or building a compensation structure, our goal is to make HR manageable so business owners can focus on what they do best.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t about a dollar amount anymore. It’s about peace of mind—knowing we have enough and that I can maintain a healthy balance between working to support our clients and spending quality time with my family. Success means having the freedom to enjoy the things we love while staying true to my values and priorities.
