Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailey B.
Hi Bailey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m an actor, athlete, and coach! I felt the magic of acting at a young age. The presence, discipline, and effort that acting demands were too thrilling to ignore.
I set my sights on film school early and followed through by graduating from Vancouver Film School. I’ve been fortunate to work with award-winning directors, renowned teachers, and talented peers who keep pushing me to be better.
Shortly after film school, some friends convinced me to try a strength training class. I only went to prove that I wouldn’t like it. I didn’t like it- I LOVED it. I couldn’t believe how empowered and supported I felt. I’d never had an experience like that with traditional exercise, in fact it had been the opposite.
That one class led to me eventually starting my own fitness and nutrition coaching business. Now I get to pass on the same joy and empowerment I feel with being strong and taking up space with my clients.
When I’m not lifting or coaching, I’m chasing the magic of acting by taking classes, auditioning, and staying creative.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wouldn’t be a road without some bumps, I think! I struggled with fitness growing up due to asthma. I felt so far behind everyone, and catching up seemed impossible. Enjoying exercise was foreign, especially because it was so tightly tied to being as small as possible.
Thankfully, I was introduced to alternative types of activity like bellydance, Pilates, and other movement classes. Those experiences helped me gain confidence in myself and enough curiosity to try strength training. After shedding the expectation of what exercise “should” look like or what I “should” look like, I was free to truly enjoy moving.
Even so, I’ve also dealt with chronic pain and it’s been a process to shift my mindset through flare ups and stay optimistic.
With acting- it’s a tough industry. You deal with a lot of rejection, so you have to have a strong sense of why you’re doing it. If your success is tied to someone else’s story, it’s going to be an even bumpier road. You gotta find joy in the day-to-day or you’ll probably quit.
As you know, we’re big fans of Worker Bee Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a coach who specializes in remote athletes. People who work out from home, or go to gyms on their own. These people enjoy their alone time, but they can also benefit from having a coach to push them, to keep them consistent, and to be there when they have questions so they’re not faced with endless forums saying conflicting things.
I love working with remote athletes because I am one. I’ve met some of my best friends through remote training programs, and I’ve worked with coaches and mentors who have changed my life because they offered remote training.
I think people underestimate remote athletes. There are challenges to being on your own vs in a class, but remote athletes are just as fierce, strong, and show-stopping. I know because I help create them.
My athletes have done Weightlifting meets, fitness competitions, obstacle races, martial arts tournaments, field sports, and distance runs. Some have even started coaching.
I’m so proud that I get to be a part of their work!
What were you like growing up?
I was definitely shy and introverted. But I could also be goofy, sarcastic, creative.
I got nervous easily. I still get nervous before auditions, putting work up in acting class, or even before a heavy lift. But I’ve learned to work with the nerves than trying to push them down or pretend they aren’t there.
I’ve always been pretty curious. I like learning new things. I love seeing others in their flow state. Watching a dance troupe move as one, or a snowboarder send off a jump, or an enticing close-up in a movie- there’s nothing like it to me. It’s so cool to see people doing something they love.
Also, chocolate. I LOVE chocolate. Apparently the first time I was offered chocolate, I told my dad I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I had jokes even as a kid! I’m on a mission to try chocolate from every place in the world.
