Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Fortier

Hi Alexis, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

My whole entrepreneurial journey started with photography. I grew up absolutely in love with landscape photography so I started a photography business. The first start was in 2016 and I tried selling just my landscapes but I started it when trying to plan a wedding and so it kind of just flopped, I tried again mid-way through 2017 but this time I ended up putting a huge focus on brand, product, and real estate photography.

That led me to local networking events. At the time photography was a side gig and I had been working 5 years in the real estate industry as an administrative assistant which morphed into an office manager for a real estate team. I was going to all these networking events in the area seeing entrepreneurs struggling with administrative tasks in their business and I remember talking to my husband and making this whole scheme about doing essentially what I was doing for the real estate team, but for anyone out there online. I didn’t think it was a thing and let it fall to the wayside for awhile until I came across the term ‘virtual assistant’ online one day. Game changer!

So I started my virtual assistant business and was able to leave my 9-5 job after 8 months of starting that business. Within that business I was working with pretty much anyone doing anything they asked of me, I’ve always been a figure it out kinda girl and I’m confident that if I don’t know how to do something I can figure it out which worked amazing. Throughout that experience I found out who I love to work with and who I’m not such a fan of working with, too.. I also started to notice certain things I loved doing, things that came so naturally, and other things that I could do but didn’t really enjoy so I began morphing the virtual assistant business to focus more specifically on helping service-based entrepreneurs set up simple yet effective systems in their business.

While all this was going on, I was feeling insanely overwhelmed behind the scenes and was seeing so many of my clients feeling the same way, having such a hard time being productive and working their butts off like there was no tomorrow, sometimes on things that didn’t always make sense for them at that time.. Aka, busy work. I got to the point where I felt I couldn’t take on anymore work, I was overwhelmed, working well into the night.. I grew up obsessed with productivity and planning, but once I started my business I kind of forgot about that side of myself and despite the fact that I was setting up these incredible systems for my clients, I was left without much of a system in my own business.

I ended up getting a grip on the back end of my business and diving back into learning everything I could about productivity which eventually led me to online business management, so after ALLLL THAT, I’ve finally found my true passion and now I help entrepreneurs set up simplified systems and manage their businesses. As entrepreneurs we start our business for time and financial freedom and I see so much entrepreneurs working these insane hours without much to show for it, and that can lead to them actually resenting what they do. So, I’m here to prevent that and help you create a solid, streamlined business that doesn’t suck up all your time and energy!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It definitely wasn’t a smooth road to get from my baby beginnings as a landscape photographer to offering online business management. I tried A LOT of different things to finally land on what I’m doing today. After starting my virtual assistant business I also tried offering standalone system setups, productivity coaching, and I even tried selling courses too so there was a lot of trial and error in figuring out what is it that I REALLY want to help people with, and how can I do that in the best way possible!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?

Growing up I was super shy and really struggled with anxiety, I never in a million years thought I’d run a business but here we are! I always knew I wanted to work with computers in some way – I was always very interested in all things tech, computers, video games, and organization too so it 100% makes sense that today I’m helping entrepreneurs streamline their business and set up systems! Organization plays into that big time and so does my love for tech!
