We asked entrepreneurs, artists, creatives and folks from every walk of life to share stories of kindness with us because we believe that hearing about kindness inspires more kindness. Our world needs more kindness.

In an industry not necessarily known for its “kindness,” I thought I’d take this question on. Many years ago I fell in love with a quirky script that took place in England and I optioned it from the writer. I offered it to Bill Paxton to direct as he had just directed “Frailty” and was currently directing, “The Greatest Game”. Read more>>

he kindest things clients have done for me have been visiting me from a long distance. Clients have traveled from New York, San Francisco, Seattle to Los Angeles just to visit me, for eyebrows and skin care which shows a great level of care and effort on their part. I have this one client who I met through a dear friend of mine her sister a radio host in LA brought me on a radio show. She went out of her way to invite me onto a radio show called Power 106. It’s one of the many kind opportunities I’ve ever experienced and I can’t even find the words to express my gratitude. As a small business owner I always need supply a client generously provides me with all the supplies I need, such as personal protective equipment (PPE) and hardware supplies for my studio. this support enables my team and I to continue to work smoothly. My current body of work requires a lot of travel. I’m in graduate school, working with a graduate school budget. The very first long-term road trip I went on for this project was in the summer of 2022. I was super nervous to be traveling for a month and a half alone, especially because I was planning on camping most nights so I could stay within my budget. The very first day I met up with a couple who I’d been put in touch with by a mutual friend who I was supposed to interview in Meridian, Mississippi. They showed me around and brought me to the local synagogue so I could photograph. They were really generous with their time, and shared their stories with me. Read more>>

In my journey as an author, here is one of the kindest things done for me. I was encouraged by several people to write our family story as a book. This was really out of the box for me as I had never thought to write a book. But through the encouragement of several educators, I started to write! The kindest thing on this journey came from Bob Goff, author of three New York Times Bestsellers and speaker extraordinaire. He asked me what I was working on and I told him I had written 130 pages. Then he said, “send it to me.” Read more>>

I’d say how much my friend Halie has taken me under her wing. She’s an incredibly talented musician. She’s done a lot for me and I’m so thankful. I’ve never met someone so encouraging and just the kindest, brightest light I’ve seen in a person…She’s someone I look up to and aspire to be like. She taught me one of the most valuable things I’ve learned as a musician and it was how to not just play the song but feel the song you’re playing. Because it’s amazing how much we let ego and fear get in the way of things and she taught me to let go of that and to really listen to the lyrics of a song and find similarities in the song to encounters I’ve had in real life. I am an assemblage or found object artist who frequents flea markets, dumpsters and estate sales in search of just the right materials for my mixed media works. I carefully combine and transform these objects into finished pieces. I have been using miniature objects to create diorama-like sculptures reminiscent of theatre sets for the past 25 years. These quirky, pintsized tableaux seem to fascinate viewing audiences. Read more>>

At the age of 19, I found myself in an incredible yet challenging situation. Living in Iowa, I had the fortune of meeting a guy from a famous TV show while I was in an airport in LA. He invited me to Cabo San Lucas for a trip with another couple. Having barely traveled and never having been outside the country, I enthusiastically accepted, not fully understanding the expectations or the implications of such a journey. This trip marked my first venture out of the country. Read more>>

The kindest thing anyone has ever done for me would be showing me the possibilities that can come from nurturing creative pursuits and passions. Jamie McPhee gave me my first real look at the many avenues available within the photography landscape. She also was the one who suggested I take my photography skills seriously because of the eye that I have. To that point I never really had anyone speak life into my creative talents like that, let alone someone I barely knew at the time! Read more>>

My friend Jen has been editing my stories for quite a while now. She is not part of the industry but is creative. I appreciate how she improves my story while maintaining my voice without trying to modify it. You need another pair of eyes to check your work. I use the writing tools available, but I still need help editing. When you find someone who can edit, you find gold. Read more>>
