We asked entrepreneurs, artists, creatives and folks from every walk of life to share stories of kindness with us because we believe that hearing about kindness inspires more kindness. Our world needs more kindness.

When I created my platform Boss Up Magazine from scratch, I never thought that it would evolve as much as it did. Although building it from scratch was innovative within itself, I truly feel like the most innovative thing I’ve done is create a mobile app, to compliment my current media platform and still maintain my current mission overall. Stood up for me. There are moments in the pressure cooker that is the film business where sometimes we are pushed to a point where we behave in ways that disappoint ourselves in the aftermath. Often what happens in those moments is picked apart, taken out of context, and put through the telephone game. Read more>>

I must say that as an event decorator, I have had many kind gestures from client’s and families. There are certain cultures who are adamant about tipping, there are certain clients who are sure to refer you to close family and friends, and I’ve also had certain clients who have become friends. However, the kindest act a client has ever done for me was to stand up for me. Read more>>

We have a kindness overload from customers at Oakwood. I can think of so many immediate random acts of kindness that touch my heart. One example is in casual conversation with a customer I mentioned how much I loved Terlingua, TX and the southwest. About one year later (perhaps even longer), the customer returned and brought me a sticker from their recent visit to the area. I hate to just single that one out, because there truly are countless acts of thoughtfulness from our customers, but that one just really was unexpected. Read more>>

As far as I can remember, the kindest person I ever met only said 4 words to me. And by “said,” I mean shouted. She shouted those words. She shouted them over and over again, and when I didn’t do what she wanted, she shouted them some more. When we met, I was not happy. How could I be? I was starting 8th grade. I was in Wisconsin. I was the new kid. I was a mess. Read more>>

This specific senior session happened at the end of January in 2022. This mom wanted (very last minute) senior photos of her (fraternal) twin boys. Fun fact, this was my first set of twins to ever come into my business. Keep in mind that I am a photographer in a wheelchair. Where we were photographing was not very hard for me to navigate myself. During the summer time in 2022, I was sitting at a table at an event and a lady approached me. She asked me if she could sit next to me. I told her that would be fine. When she sat down she asked me if I could tell her about myself. I don’t know why but I felt comfortable with telling her about me. At the end of our conversation she said, “I want you to work for our company”. Read more>>

It’s so many kind things that people have done for me, but I have have two instances that helped catapult my business. First is a good friend whom I consider a brother, Jeffrey ‘Uni’ Nickelson. I wanted to be certified and taught by a great Holistic Doctor by the name of Dr. Laila Afrika (praise be upon him). Read more>>

In 2013 I was about ready to drop out of college. There was an issue with some of my financial aid not coming through, and I was down to less than $100 in the bank account. At the time I was getting my degree in theatre performance, and was only able to attend college due to the scholarships I received. The amount of stress I was experiencing led me to extreme depression and suicidal ideation started to creep in. Read more>>
