In March of 2020 there was a moment of widespread panic – it wasn’t just about public health, it was also economic. Would our economy survive a prolonged pandemic? A few years in the answer is clear – it did survive and it was able to because of the spirit and the resolve of our people. Hard working mom and pops working overtime to implement new revenue streams for the businesses, artists and creators finding new ways to collaborate and share their art with their fans and folks from every neighborhood in the country finding ways to adapt and carry on. We wanted to honor those stories by creating a space to share those stories and you’ll find some of the below.

When Covid hit I was forced to face many of the same challenges as other business owners. Keeping clients safe was our top priority. Although social distancing was impossible because it’s a hands on job, we made sure to follow the all the new CDC guidelines. We took extra time to fully sanitize before and after each service, wore masks, screen each client before their appointment and Closed the waiting area to control traffic. When COVID-19 started up we where getting cancelations non stop every day. Being a BBQ catering company we rely on bookings to stay afloat and keep our business going! With a business things change all the time and as soon as you think you have it figured out it changes. These are things as a owner you have to figure out and always be thinking ahead so your not left wondering why it’s not working out. Covid opened a new door to my client base by allowing everyone to work remotely. As a result, I have had the pleasure of working with clients from across the world. We handle meetings via Zoom calls and communicate via text and e-mail primarily. Covid made working in isolation a necessity, so it wasn’t necessary to go to in-person meetings. When we had media events at venues that were having them, usually a more junior member would attend with masks and gloves, adhering to all Covid health restrictions, and luckily no one got sick. Covid has changed my business model in many ways. For one, it allowed me to be more creative and it has also allowed me to expand my already “not-so traditional” school setting by tapping into the homeschooling way of life as well. Secondly, I no longer just introduce myself as a private school founder but an experienced educational liaison too! Last but not least, at the peak of COVID in 2020, I took a position as a live-in Nanny during the summer and I wrote and published a Math Study Guide to assist students that already struggled in math prior to COVID and a Word Search Puzzle book that enhances problem solving skills and orthography.
