We’ve been blown away by the examples of generosity and kindness that are at the heart of so many brands in the community. We asked some of the most giving entrepreneurs and leaders we know to tell us about how they think about the practice of donating a percentage of sales.

This week marked a milestone in our charitable commitment as a winery. We produce a Rosé wine exclusively to raise money to combat breast cancer. This week we donated $50,000 in partnership with the Emma Jacobs Breast Cancer Foundation to The Rose, a Houston organization focused on reducing deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. I am a portrait photographer and one of my favorites genres is maternity portraits. Whenever I have a maternity client, I donate a portion of the session fee to SafeHaven of Tarrant County. A few years ago I volunteered at the shelter to help repaint the dorm rooms. While on break I got to meet some of the clients. One little boy looked up at me and asked if I wanted to play with his toys. He was so sweet and I got pretty choked up thinking of what experiences he must have endured to end up in a shelter. This prompted me to support the mission at SafeHaven of Tarrant County by using my business to generate funds to donate. Read more>>

A portion of my profits from my reiki jewelry business goes to the Unstoppable Foundation. Details about them can be found on their website: https://unstoppablefoundation.org, but in general, contributions go to build schools in third world countries as well as helping them gain access to clean water and sanitation, food and nutrition, healthcare and alternative income training for parents. Since 1989 I took over the salon here in Lake Highlands and we have been coloring and cutting the youth of this neighborhood, their parents and teachers ever since. The first 10 years I was truly in survival mode. Just getting the doors open everyday was both exciting and exhausting and then I still had my little boy and a second job. As I educated myself and hired my way out of the negative I began working more closely with professional product reps. Meanwhile as a small business in a vibrant family friendly neighborhood we were inundated with requests for donations to local schools. Side note, most large corporate stores do not donate to the locals. Read more>>

Last month, we participated in an event hosted by The Mom Economy in Dadeland Mall. The event was a holiday market and featured 18 mom-owned businesses. It was a wonderful way to meet other “mompreneurs” and was a great cause in which we all donated 20% of our proceeds from the event. The Mom Economy is an organization that raises funds for mom-owned business in order to provide maternity leaves for mothers. Unfortunately, the US economy does not help support mother-owned businesses by providing any sort of leave so I really loved this idea and was honored to be able to participate in event with such a great group of women! We have always been a company that was mildly involved in doing GOOD. In the beginning it was an honest effort, but as the wheels got turning and we ramped our business up, we lost track of our goals with giving back. We routinely did what we always had, without scaling up our efforts alongside our growth. Prior to the pandemic, we made a concerted effort to focus more attention on doing GOOD. The pandemic provided a perfect challenge: do we launch the initiatives we had planned in the face of economic uncertainty. We did. Read more>>

In the middle of the pandemic, I felt the time was appropriate to create a compilation book written by women I admired and who had stories to tell. The intent was for readers to be encouraged and inspired in their own lives after reading about the experiences, hardships, and breakthroughs of others. Read more>>

When we first started PaliRoots, we wanted to think outside the box and look into a more untraditional way of giving back to the children of Palestine. After months of brainstorming, we decided to create our own software to calculate meals donations based on total order value. The way it works is if you purchase something from PaliRoots.com, we will donate a free meal on our behalf, after that, for every $25 spent, we donate another meal. Read more>>

Our award winning wine is made with LOVE & GRATITUDE for all who helped make it happen. From the vintners we’ve been sourcing fruit from for years, to the bottling crew and bar staff, we try to involve as many local, hard-working people as we can. We currently have two ways we are giving back: our “Pay it Forward” bottles and our “Corks for Cause” program. Read more>>
