As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

I do and am very grateful that I have the opportunity to do so. My husband is a physician, so he does not get much time off. However, when he does, we seize the opportunity and vacation together as a family. We typically choose one destintion within a reasonable driving distance of where we live on Long Island, and we choose a unique destination around the world that none of us have ever been to. For instance, we are heading to northern Vermont to go skiing, and then later in the year we will travel to the South Pacific. Read more>>

The best testimony I ever received was a text from a client’s wife. They were on vacation and she sent me a picture of my client with their sleeping 1 year old on his chest with the text “He never does this. THANK YOU SO MUCH!” Read more>>

I truly prioritize my vacation days. In many ways, taking proper time off is a true testament to our mental health. It is something we should all strive for and make sure that we are giving ourselves. If you can afford a vacation, take it. If not, at least take some time every weekend to disconnect from your screen and immerse yourself in the outdoors or in whatever brings you joy. Your well-being (and by extension, your productivity) will thank you for it. Read more>>

They say in real estate when things get slow to plan vacation! It’s very true how it always seems to work out that when I have a trip planned suddenly people call me ready to sell or buy. I call these good problems! In 2022 our family traveled on 3 very different trips and we made it to 3 new countries and 6 new states with multiple types of trips. Read more>>

For the past 2 years, I have not taken a vacation from being a nail tech. (Other than when I caught Covid and had to take 2 weeks off) Though I wouldn’t consider that to be a vacation, it honestly felt great to be able to relax and reflect on the work I have done. I took that time to come up with ideas to improve my business. I told myself that in 2023, I will take atleast 2 vacations, one out of state and another out of the country. Read more>>

I absolutely take vacations! Travel is my passion. That’s how I figured out what my journey and purpose was going to be after I retired from the Air Force. Traveling is about experiencing something different, challenging or the unexpected. Most people work hard everyday and they may spend a little time here or there with friends and family, but do they really indulge themselves in something different? Read more>>

I take too many vacations! My partner and I are constantly on the road or in the air. We are opposite of home bodies. I feel extremely lucky to have the flexibility to work remotely. When I am home, I reach out to all of my connections- clients, friends, colleagues and schedule a time to meet. The majority of my network shares my passion and excitement about traveling. It is something we can connect on, share experiences and stories, and ideas for the next trip. Read more>>
