As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

I most definitely take vacations. I actually chose to start an at home job not only because I like to be creative but also to make it possible for my family to take day trips and vacations. My husband works extremely hard but we live paycheck to paycheck. I didn’t want my kids to grow up and not have fun memories of visiting places. Owning my own business allows me to be able to do this for them and not stress about finances. Read more>>

Absolutely! I’m a huge believer of balance in all areas of life, that includes not burning myself out with work. I love what I do and I’m so grateful for my business but it’s not all that I am. I love traveling and experiencing new places too! My husband is a part-time professional photographer, so traveling often is something we both value deeply. Our trips bring me so much joy, I feel very lucky that I’m able to schedule time off for myself- the perks of being my own boss! Read more>>

Of course! Vacations are so important to reset the mind. They help me relax but also help me learn about new areas of the world. I often incorporate flavors from foods I’ve eaten on vacation into my recipes. Read more>>

I love taking vacations! One of my ultimate goals is to see the entire world, to go from country to country to see what they are known for. There’s so much out there to see. One thing I learned, money comes and goes. I used to get nervous by taking off days from the salon to travel. The good thing about being in the beauty industry, there’s days, weeks, or months that can be very slow. Then other times it picks up, and I end up making double and or triple of what I normally make. Life is too short to work all the time. Read more>>

I think it’s so important to take time for yourself . Reward your goals or even setbacks. A vacation doesn’t have to be out of the country . It can be across town just for a few hours of quiet. I take vacations as often as I can , maybe even too much haha. But traveling allows me to see the world around me, appreciate the blessings and opportunities I’ve been graced with and return home with a fresh set of eyes for life as well as my business. All the time! Friends joke with me and talk about me all the time, about how I’m always gone and never home. I believe that a person that works hard, should play even harder. It’s very important to take time to yourself to keep yourself sane, honestly. When you are always working, you’re always drained and don’t have the energy to give to other areas of your life. Taking a vacation for me gives me that recharge that I need. I’m always on the go. Life is way too short not to enjoy it! Read more>>

I am writing this while on vacation…so kinda? I was born and grew up just outside Orlando, Florida and I am the only member of my immediate family to leave Florida, so most of my vacations are trips to visit my family either in Florida or somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains to spend a week at a cabin with the whole group. We have started calling this the annual “Stackcation” and it is an important way for my family to come together, be obnoxious and spend time away from work and normal day-to-day responsibilities. I found so much humor in this question. Because starting out my entrepreneur journeyvacations and personal time was the last thing that was on my mind. I had a mission and it was to build my brand up andd at the time what I thought was the right way I found myself feeling burnt out and was losing myself because work had taken over my life.
