As a business owner it’s easy to feel like your work is never done – because no matter how much you do, there is always more that could theoretically be done. Many business owners we’ve spoken with also feel that they have a responsibility to be available to their team and that if they step away they are putting an undue burden on their team. So, we wanted to hear from a broad range of business owners on whether they take vacations and we’ve shared some of their responses below.

Yes, I absolutely take vacations because I believe they are crucial for both personal well-being and business success. As a business owner, I’ve learned that stepping away doesn’t mean things have to fall apart—it just requires proper planning. My advice to entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away is to build a strong team, delegate responsibilities, and put systems in place that allow the business to run smoothly in your absence. Trusting your team and setting clear expectations ensures operations continue without you micromanaging. Taking time off isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity that helps you recharge, gain fresh inspiration, and come back as a stronger, more effective leader. Read more>>

Early in my career, I didn’t prioritize making time for myself. I became so consumed by my daily routine and responsibilities that I overlooked the importance of self-care and rest. Eventually, this led me straight into burnout. It’s incredibly easy to get caught up in the rhythm of everyday life and keep pushing yourself without pause. My most successful year in business I took 12 weeks off. Unplugging and tapping into your creativity, looking at how you can do something the effortless way is a key element that I work with my clients. Also, true you do not step away but if you are doing what you love, living the life you dreamed of I believe you do not need a vacation from that life. However, when you do go away and surround yourself in relaxation, down time or adventure you reconnect with your purpose, your why and you are re-invigiorated to step back into your business. I had to learn this, it was not natural to me. However, again part of what I focus on with clients is creating their life. their way. Read more>>

Yes, I take vacations all the time! In fact, I traveled full-time for around 10 years. About half that time was in an RV and the other half I was sailing and traveling on a sailboat. I also have run my business from an around the world cruise to 30 countries.
