Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmin S Brown
Hi Yasmin S, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The sun was shining, but my sky was darkened by past trauma six years ago. With this adversity stirring up my thoughts I started to journal. As time passed, I would reflect and remind myself how far I had come. This led to me noticing a pattern in how I processed the emotions served by my past. Realizing I could face past transgressions and discover a new voice led me to believe this method came to help more than just myself. Through healing, I birthed my first book. I always had a dream to make women beautiful. First, it started as cosmetology, but I could no longer stand for extended periods due to unforeseen circumstances. As the saying goes “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream,” -C.S. Lewis. With the determination to be of service Power Her Forward Ltd, a proud sponsor of Yiry-Elements was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Learning who you are is a struggle, but learning your baggage is a different story. Understanding your triggers, processing, and not reacting to them is a job in and of itself. Some may say I wear my heart on my sleeve. I say I wear my emotions better. Empathy and compassion are my good traits. They can also overload me to have an adverse effect. Imagine attending a trauma and resilience class. Now observe and absorb everyone’s story including the places you did not realize still held you back from moving forward, OVERWHELMED! All while working on building your business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a medical professional, I do many things, particularly data analytics, hospital patient care, and home healthcare. I have learned a great deal over the past twenty years in healthcare. Specifically, in trauma. I would wonder how the mind processes setbacks after physical injury. This was one of the swaying decisions to specialize in women’s mental health. I am known as a self-help author advocating for women. Finding restoration in my journey gave me the time to look back at everything I have been through. To step into my resilience was the greatest leap to be of service to women with a similar walk-in life. I am proud of Power Her Forward Ltd. To say the name brings joy to my spirit because we are the pillars of our communities. According to the Center for Children and Families, 40% of the children in America live with a single mother. That is one too many homes affected if we are not mentally sound. I am like no other. I do not fit in a box of any kind. Through my unique approach to women’s mental health, I can touch many without the stigmatism of societal normal.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
“Begin with the end in mind,” in the words of Dr. Stephen R. Covey. The most important thing I learned was that not everyone sees your vision. In addition, we are all under reconstruction in diverse ways and by breaking the silence we can rebuild from the destruction. It is okay to see only your section of the bridge because recognition for doing our part comes in the end.
