Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Lianne Chandler
Hi Taylor Lianne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I left home at 15, emancipated at 16, and put myself through college, but I struggled with homelessness, being hungry, past trauma and living with Borderline Personality Disorder. The ultimate kicker was being born Intersex, genital mutilation surgery, and embarking on a journey to undo the wrong done to me. At 41 my whole life turned upside down when it became public I’d been dating Michael Phelps, the Gold Medalist Olympic Swimmer. Now at 51 I think I’ve got my act together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up I dealt with being molested and incest, which put a rift between me and my family. My family had money and I grew up privileged. I had everything money could buy, but nothing I truly needed, like love, security, and peace. Once emancipated and on my own I struggled homelessness, survival sex work and living with the secret of being born Intersex. In 2001 I was in a fatal car accident, pronounced dead, only to be revived by a rookie EMT. I went through brain surgery and facial reconstruction, coma and a 2-1/2 year recovery to regain my memory and learn to walk and talk again.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve done everything I ever wanted to do from model, stunt woman, actress, business professional, advocate, activist, public speaker. These days I juggle a public life and a professional life in Washington, DC. I’m known for being a sign language interpreter, crisis management consultant and DEI strategist in my professional life. In my public life I’m known as a model, actress and film star, as well as being the author of several books, including, The Making of Going For the Gold, and Super Bowl Surprise. I’m working on my complete memoir, Beyond the Gold. I’m most proud of the youth I’ve helped through workforce development and homelessness.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to my younger self would be to forgive myself! It was not my fault. Make no apologies to people that don’t matter. Don’t be afraid to be the best you! LIVE! Life isn’t promised, do everything you want to do, be who you want to be and build a lasting legacy!
