Today we’d like to introduce you to Susannah Lago

Hi Susannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?

My kids and I started Killer Cotton Candy in the summer of 2023. After suffering an ankle injury that rendered me unable to do in person events with my ongoing event business (Style Up Group), we decided to take advantage of the downtime by coming up with a new business venture together! We brainstormed for weeks and finally settled on starting a cotton candy business. It gave us an opportunity to build something together and also learn about teamwork, marketing, and I got to teach my children about what goes into starting and running a business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Starting a new business venture always comes with a learning curve. Sometimes it’s a bit of a steep curve. Luckily we had some control in how to scale this business and did so in a way that wasn’t overwhelming, especially considering that I’d be running and managing two businesses simultaneously. That has been the thing that I’ve wrestled with the most…. how to schedule and balance two businesses that have overlapping busy seasons. I’m still perfecting how to do that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Killer Cotton Candy is known for Killer Cakes! Cakes that are made 100% of cotton candy. They are gluten free and dairy free. It’s been really neat to bring a dessert treat to the Wisconsin market that’s perfect for birthday parties and doesn’t feel like a “second best” option. Not like GF cakes are bad or anything, but let’s just say everyone loves cotton candy whether you’re a gluten free person or not! It’s just fun and nostalgic and is basically joy and childhood all wrapped up into a delicious, colorful cake. We’re so happy to be able to offer this.

What’s next?

We’d like to add more items to our Killer Cotton Candy “Candy Shop” as we call it: our online store. We ship our products all across the state of Wisconsin and are looking to expand our products beyond cakes. Keep checking back to see what cool and crazy ideas we come up with!
