Today we’d like to introduce you to Space Hug.
Hi Space Hug, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We first met in a band and quickly became close friends. After we both moved on, our bond deepened, and during COVID, life brought us even closer. Erik was furloughed, and Adrianne, a single mom, needed help with her young twins. Erik stepped in as the ‘manny,’ and somewhere between the chaos and laughter, our friendship turned to love.
In our basement studio, we started crafting songs together…Erik writing and recording, Adrianne bringing them to life with her voice. When the cold Minnesota winters wore us down, we traded snow for sunshine and made a new home on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Now, Space Hug continues to evolve, blending driving guitar riffs, soulful vocals, and rich keyboard melodies into songs that explore everything from personal stories to social themes. With contributions from longtime and new collaborators, our music is now infused with island warmth, all independently produced in our home studio. Surrounded by the jungle and the vast Pacific, we hope our songs travel far and wide, bringing beauty and meaning to an ever-changing world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our journey hasn’t been without its challenges, especially our move to Hawaii. After making it through the chaos of COVID, we had to fix up and sell our homes, navigate career changes, and coordinate the logistics of relocating our entire lives, including kids and pets, to a place that felt worlds away. The process was overwhelming, full of paperwork, planning, and countless details to sort out.
Adjusting to life on the east side of the Big Island has been its own adventure. We traded Minnesota’s winters for a lush rainforest, where the jungle grows fast, the culture is rich, and the economy operates differently than what we were used to. It’s been a learning curve, but now that we’re settled, we’re embracing the daily magic of Hawaii…making new friends, creating music, and finding inspiration in this wild and beautiful place.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What makes Space Hug special is the bond we share. Erik writes the songs, Adrianne brings them to life with her voice, and together we shape their sound…tweaking, refining, and sometimes even disagreeing. But we always listen to each other, and every change we make is for the better.
At the heart of it all is love; not just for music, but for each other. We truly believe that energy comes through in our songs, and people can feel it. Creating music together as partners is something we never take for granted. It’s a beautiful thing, and we feel incredibly lucky to share it.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Being a musician is a tough road, especially financially. It’s not easy to make a living at it. But if music is your gift, your passion, and part of who you are, then you have to do it. The world needs art to inspire, inform, and bring joy.
Don’t chase it for fame or popularity. Do it because it’s your truth. If music is your purpose, listen to that voice, trust it, and share your gifts. This is your life, and you get to choose how you live it.
