Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Wilde
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When my family and I moved to New Orleans from Canada, we knew that we wanted to start a business here. My husband always had a dream of opening a metaphysical/occult shop and I loved the idea of bringing a new and fresh take on the industry.
In New Orleans there are already a number of shops dedicated to the occult, witchcraft, voodoo etc. While they are lovely and I think what they are doing is wonderful, I wanted to bring a new flavor to what the occult could be! This is how our first, of now three shops was created. Sassy Magick was born out of my love for pink, glitter, and safe spaces.
My husband, Sean was totally on board with allowing that vision to come to life. It was the best of both worlds for us. He got his occult shop, and I got to bring in a new pink life to the community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part it’s been smooth. Of course opening up retail shops comes with it’s own challenges, and we did have to learn along the way.
However, we were welcomed with open arms and right away valued by our customers (I like to call them guests) which made it easy to take on the work and learn how to make out shops the best they could be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
While I do have a strong background in retail space, I brought forward my education in the arts to make a space that everyone would feel comfortable, loved and safe in.
Sure some people will walk in off the street and giggle at the fact that a witchy shop is pink with disco balls, once they spend some time in our shop(s), realize that we not only have pink walls, but sell the real deal!
I am a professional photographer outside of this retail life, and I believe it’s given me a good eye to detail, and allowed my mind to be creative in creating our magical glittery spaces.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
It was very important for me (as well for my husband) to create a safe and welcoming place for anyone who either visits us in person, finds us online, or stumbles in to one of our Sassy Magick shops.
Often times these sorts of spaces can be extlusive, intimidating, dark and spooky. We wanted to flip that perception upside down and allow space for everyone. We believe that everyone should have access into finding their spirituality, and we believe that they should feel loved and safe while exploring.
