Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Weber
Sarah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This is always such a tough question for me to answer as my story is all over the place! The funny thing is, often we have this step by step plan envisioned, myself included. The difference I’ve seen is those who stick to that plan with no option of going off track, and those like myself, who go more with the flow and let our hearts guide us. I don’t see anything wrong with either option, it just depends on who we are. I graduated from Penn State University almost a decade ago (I know I know, I’m dating myself) with a degree in broadcast journalism with plans to become a news anchor. While in school, I was simultaneously starting my acting and modeling career.
Once college ended, most people would assume I would go on to find a starting job in the journalism field, but it just didn’t feel right to me. My heart knew I wanted to follow my passion and continue down the path of modeling and acting which allowed me to flourish in my creativity. I have always appreciated my parents so much for encouraging me to do that instead of pressuring me to get a job with my degree. After a year or so, I realized that going into that industry wouldn’t allow me to make the money I was determined to have, as much of your success as a model/actress depends on other people (agents, casting directors, etc).
I was given the opportunity to try a completely different career path – sales. I nervously made the leap, moved away from home, and quickly found myself excelling AND loving selling cars. Plus, it was the most money I had ever made. From there I become completely infatuated with self development and bettering myself – I read books, watched YouTube videos, listened to podcast, went to seminars…it never stopped. Which is when I stumbled upon real estate investing. I instantly became obsessed and began studying real estate anytime I wasn’t selling cars until one thing led to another, and I ended up at my first real estate investing job as an acquisition agent.
Again, I quickly excelled, bringing in over $2.4 million in profit for the company I was working for in my first full year. After a few years, I bought my first rental property and began coaching other acquisition agents and sales teams while continuing to buy houses for another company as well as starting my own company along with two other partners, Equity Empire io.
To this day, I still model and act, and have a YouTube channel based on self development, spirituality and mastering oneself. I never wanted to be in a position where I lost my outlet for creativity, and those things allow me to do that while also excelling in the real estate investing realm and making the money I’ve always dreamed of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I have found that those who dream about the past and live in regret are never truly able to move forward and capture their true potential. Instead, each obstacle has been a lesson and has crafted who I am today, and I appreciate them just as much as my wins and successes.
Some would consider me going into sales and foregoing my dream of being in the acting/modeling industry as a fail, which I did for a long time. Instead, I learned that I like to be in complete control of how I make an income and still incorporate those things for fun, instead of being completely dependent on them to live.
I was also hired in the midst of my car sales career to run an international gym, which I thought at the time would be my absolute dream job as I have always been a bit of a “gym rat” and highly prioritize weight lifting 6 days a week and taking my nutrition seriously. In 2 months, I realized it was not for me and went back to car sales. Again, some would consider this a fail, but I negotiated a 4 day work week back at the dealership which allowed me to use the other 3 days of the week to learn and get involved into real estate.
I built a fitness brand on Instagram over the course of 6 years, posting nearly every day, and was really getting somewhere with it. Until one day in 2020 my account was hacked and never recovered. Not only did I lose tens of thousands of followers, I lost a ton of contacts, lost brand deals, lost my role in a television show and quite frankly, felt like I lost a huge part of my identity and everything I worked so hard for. I was absolutely devastated. I remember sitting down on my back porch one night sobbing and then it hit me – this was either going to take me down, or it wasn’t. I decided the latter. It helped me step away from social media and the pull it had on me, and it allowed me to completely rebrand into self development and spirituality when I restarted. Sure, I’m nowhere close to where I was in my last account, but I also don’t really care anymore. It ended up being a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders.
I’ve lost a job out of nowhere, quit a job with no plan, and everything in between. The trick is to keep a positive mindset as much as possible during these times and have the absolute knowing that these aren’t roadblocks, but stepping stones. Whatever you believe WILL manifest itself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most of us are taught to choose a direction and to stick to it. While I believe for many that is a great method to choose, it was never right for me. I couldn’t put myself into one container and one container only. When I would try to force myself to, my soul was never satisfied. So I narrowed it down – what are the things that are TRULY important to me? Fulfillment and money. So the question became – how do I make those things happen?
Most of us have heard the saying “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life” – but I want to challenge that a little bit because I have been on both sides of that spectrum. I have loved what I was doing, but wasn’t making enough money to take care of myself. I’ve made a ton of money, but been miserable with what I was doing. So I had to figure out a compromise and learn to incorporate all of the things that make me happy AND make an income that made me feel safe. And who says those have to be the same thing?
I realized that for me to feel safe, I needed to make a good income. I get this through my real estate job buying houses and my real estate business coaching others on how to do the same. Modeling, acting and YouTube are the things that fill in the “fulfillment” gap. I get to express my creativity through the random photoshoots and acting gigs I book, and I get to help those create a better life for themselves through my YouTube channel. Truly, the best of both worlds.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was interested in a bunch of different things – big surprise! I was a competitive gymnast for many years which was a huge part of my identity, until I started getting injured and was tired of not having a life outside of the gymnasium. Even though I medaled in every single meet and was really good at what I did, I quit. I was always an athlete – running track, pole vaulting, cheerleading, and even ultimate frisbee.
I was a great student, graduating high school with honors and a part of the National Honors Society, and college cum laude. I always took my academics very seriously and only realized later in life, it didn’t matter as much as I thought it did. Still, it taught me how to prioritize, how I best learned material and time management. I was always involved in a ton of clubs, too. Looking back, I’m not sure how I managed it all!
I’ve always treasured my family and friendships and still do to this day. The relationships I have in my life are still and will always be the most important thing to me. I have a ton of friends from high school still, and a few from early childhood. At the end of the day, financial success doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t have people around you to share those things with.
