Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Reed
Rudy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My start in Fashion truly began after moving to New York in the early 90’s. I mad the decision to move to the big apple to continue my education for Broadcast Journalism. In order to survive,I naturally had to find work. I was recruited to work at a boutique Patricia Field. During my time at the store, my boss would start styling the television show Sex in The City.
She would ask me my opinions on looks/pieces, which in turn, boosted my confidence as well as opened my eyes to a field I knew very little about.
Fast forward to present day, I continue to recognize her as the primary figure who inspired me to take the path of fashion as a career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any job, you learn things as you go. As a wardrobe stylist, my job has very complex variants. Having to make the client comfortable with me is very important. Mainly because it can be a very vulnerable scenario being that often times they have to undress and dress in front of me.
Having to suggest to clients that particular articles of clothing they have in their wardrobe may not be the most flattering can be a challenging situation. And this involves colors, cuts, and sizes of apparel.
Other obstacles can happen on set/location. Models running late, bad weather the day of an outside project, etc.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a New York based Wardrobe Stylist and Writer.
I am known for my edgy/bold approach to fashion, while maintaining a chic and alluring appeal.
It’s always a joy seeing my work in print and in videos, but what what really pleases me is when I put smiles on the faces of my private clients who depend on my vision to help them look their very best.
As of lately, I’ve teamed up with Pearl Academy in India and have had workshops with their students for the past two seasons.
I’m also featured in the new book Watching New York by Johnny Cirillo
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
My industry is always changing. We are impacted by trends, fast fashion, social media, and now AI.
I do think that the industry as well as designers are more focused on sustainable clothing and the stance of preserving the environment with less waste.
