Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Van Dyne
Hi Rose, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After being born and raised in Colorado, I came to New York City in 2018. It’s been a whirlwind since then creating a life as a freelance artist but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I’m excited to see how my career will continue to unfold as an actor, musician, educator, and arts advocate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My professional path has taken many twists and turns but always with the same goal in mind — having the freedom to work on projects that I WANT to do. Whether that’s as an actor in a 29-hour workshop, or music directing the tour of Labyrinth, or teaching music theory classes or private voice lessons to industry professionals, I try to keep my life full of variety and joy. I’m lucky that I’m able to have so many facets of the arts industry that I find to be satisfying. In any given year it can feel discouraging when one element seems like it’s not going to come along, but there’s always a different avenue I can take. Redirecting, not relinquishing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d like to be known as the ultimate helper. In a rehearsal room, I want to be the catch-all person who can assist in a variety of capacities for whoever might need something in that moment. I hope that the skills I’ve acquired and worked on over the years have led me to a place that I can be a valuable asset to a creative team. I’m proud to be someone who is reliable, hard-working, and can find creative solutions to creative problems.
In the arts industry there are many people with big dreams and lofty ideas, but may lack the tools to implement steps to make those dreams come true. I’m proud to be someone that can help them achieve their vision.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It may feel like if you don’t accomplish x,y,z in a particular timeline or order that you are failing. This isn’t true. Though it’s cliche, everyone’s path is so different. There is no way to predict or anticipate how your life may turn out. We don’t have to hold on so tightly to external validation being unchanging when we ourselves on the inside are changing every minute of every day. Maybe your dreams will stay the same – maybe they’ll change. Either way all you can do is trust yourself in the exact moment you’re in to make the best choices and steps forward that you know how to do, right now. Everything else will fall into the place the way it’s meant to be.
