Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Beyer.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began unexpectedly in 2014. I was grappling with a chronic pain condition that conventional medicine couldn’t explain. Leaving my desk job, I found myself working part-time at a local apothecary, where I was introduced to the world of herbalism and aromatherapy. Working with these healing herbs provided a surprising sense of relief from my stress and pain. This sparked a deeper dive into herbalism and aromatherapy as a form of self-care. I realized that aligning my life with nature was essential for my healing.
Being a creative person, I started gardening, crafting my own remedies, and making gifts for loved ones. In 2018, I was commissioned by Hinkler Books to write a candlemaking kit instruction book. This project ignited my passion for candlemaking. Soon after, I launched my first two candles, “Gentle Awakening” and “Glow of Love,” selling them online and in a local shop. As an artist, I wanted to create unique candles that were also functional art, so I illustrated the labels myself. The positive response fueled me to create new scents, eventually expanding my line to include 10 signature candles, Aura Sprays, and Plant Magic Perfumes. I also expanded my garden to grow herbs for my products.
Today, I continue to study herbalism and participate in a community garden, sharing my knowledge and growing herbs on a larger scale. In 2024, I launched a line of herb-infused lip balms, a project that allows me to fully immerse myself in the plant process, from growing and infusing to crafting. I’m incredibly excited to share these creations with my community and beyond.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My business journey has definitely had its share of bumps! I’ve learned that prioritizing my health and well-being is crucial for success. I’ve also faced creative blocks, imposter syndrome, and past trauma. Over time, I’ve discovered that honoring my own pace, trusting my intuition, and going to therapy have been essential for growth and resilience in pursuing my dreams.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist, maker, and herbalist, I specialize in creating handcrafted candles, herb-infused lip balms, and artful aromatherapy products designed for self-love and soul care. Each item is a labor of love, meticulously crafted in small batches using natural, eco-friendly ingredients and sustainable packaging. I’m known for my signature art labels, which I personally illustrate, and for incorporating homegrown herbs into my products. I’m most proud of my commitment to giving back to my community through donations to mutual aid groups and volunteering at community gardens. What sets my brand apart is the combination of art, nature, and community focus, all infused with intention and care.
