Today we’d like to introduce you to Prince Frazier
Prince, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My father loved music and is a musician as well. When my mom was pregnant, he would play his guitar and sing to me in the womb. Telling me how bright my future would be and how I would amount to something greater. He pretty much set me up for success with a name like Prince T’Challa honestly. Once I was older and my parents saw me taking a liking to the piano, they put me into piano lessons immediately. I also went to only performing and visual arts schools from elementary through high school. Where in each one I continued piano and vocal lessons. Eventually, during my time I would start writing songs to deal with my emotions. I was and still am pretty emotional and writing was always my escape to deal with the anxiety. One of the first few songs that I wrote that made all my friends even wonder who wrote it, was my song Red Crayon. Seeing how much they loved it, I continued to write more and more. I started releasing music once I got into college and learning more about mixing, and taking all of those years of work I put out my first album on my 21st birthday in December of 2023. I titled it “Divine Conversations of Growth” and it showed my growth as a person, artist, and writer up to that point. Telling a story that I cannot wait to continue to expand upon.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing’s ever a smooth road unless you have an abundance of money at your disposal. I started recording using my iPad with GarageBand in my closet with a blue snowball microphone with barely any clue as to what I was doing, however I was determined as hell to make something out of what I had. Besides physical obstacles such as equipment which I just upgraded over time and gained knowledge through trial and error, I would say the biggest obstacle has been myself. As artists we want things to be close to perfect. I had so much music recorded, but thought none of it sounded well enough to release. And once I started letting go of those fears and just supporting my music through and through, not only did I stop criticizing every little minute detail, but people loved the music. It showed me that I had nothing to worry about.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a musician and singer-songwriter. As stated earlier I go by Prince T’Challa which is also my First and middle name. I orbit in the pop realm of music but allow myself to take inspiration and influence from other genres as well because I love listening to all genres of music. I have been learning about producing music and composing in college from classes and friends. Taking a lot of the new techniques I have learned to add further depth to my music. I am most proud of accomplishing my goal of releasing a full-length project as it took a lot of work and time. It took about four years or so to finish the album, but it was worth it because it sounds familiar in a sense to other music you can hear yet set apart by the soundscapes I enjoy creating. Fleshing out an entire world that you can become immersed in. Adding elements that can be picked up on each time you listen so it always feels fresh. Of course, adding my love and passion into the music as well so you feel everything I was feeling when I wrote the pieces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would not necessarily call it luck. I think manifesting and putting in the work brings you towards your goals. The universe knows what you need and even if it feels like you are at your lowest, and you do not understand what could be on the other side, keeping that optimism and grit to persevere will lead you to your destination. If it is meant for you it will find you. Happened to me. I played at a venue named Taffeta a couple of times, and when they posted that an artist I love named Elita was playing at their venue, I simply reposted excitedly saying how I could not wait for the show and how I plan on buying tickets. They reached out and asked if I would like to open and without hesitation I said yes. The show was amazing. I got to meet Elita, Tim and John who were super sweet individuals. Learned about how they started touring too, so more new knowledge in the bank to be used later and just had a fantastic time overall. Luck could have been influencing some of these things, but I think my manifesting, hard work, and most importantly being kind to everyone and networking are what got me to that stage.
