Today we’d like to introduce you to Prairie Pavement
Hi Prairie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are a four (sometimes five) piece indie rock band from Western New York, formed in 2021 by four high school students with the intention of performing at an arts festival. We decided to continue after performing for our friends and peers, and recorded/released our first album shortly after. This led to more performance opportunities, connections, and exposure.
This gave us the motivation and creative drive to write more music, which would then appear on our sophomore LP the following year.
Since then, we’ve played shows relentlessly, (both in and out of town) and are currently in the process of releasing new music, having just released a new single a couple of months ago. More music is always on the way!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth having is easy. Many obstacles can present themselves in a variety of ways. Sometimes we walk away from a performance not feeling the best. But at the end of the day, we understand that not EVERY performance is going to be great. That’s what makes the good ones feel so empowering.
Also, as we said in our last interview here, personal lives in general tend to get in the way at points. Being in a group with four people, it is difficult to get everyone to be in agreement with each other, however we’ve learned to adapt by strengthening communication.
One of the other difficult things that happens as a result of this is constantly being on a time crunch for rehearsals, gigs, and recordings. It can be stressful at times, but we just have to remember why we’re here and our original intentions when we formed this band.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We could sit here and give some higher thought answer about what we do, but we’re just trying to have fun doing something we love, whilst lowkey trying to see how far we can go. We just love writing and playing our music for other people, screaming on stage, acting like idiots for the amusement of us and others.
It’s also a very stress-relieving experience as well, considering that I (Sal) and our other vocalist Jack write songs about deeply personal subjects. It helps us to not feel the weight of those situations as much, and we end up feeling so much better after playing those songs.
We’re not really doing anything revolutionary, just trying to have fun playing music at the end of the day. Maybe that’s what sets us apart from others at the end of the day. We never take ourselves TOO seriously, because then it’s not as fun anymore.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Let’s see: New single! It’s called “My Cousin’s Gradutation.” We’re very proud of that good ‘ol thang! There’s always Prairie Pavement lore as long as you keep your eyes out. New music in the coming months, so please stay tuned. Other than that, not a whole lot. I bought a mirror the other day, $2.50. What a steal!
